Universities Latin America, the OAS and Virtual Educa analyze in Forum the challenges of innovation for higher education


Santo Domingo. DN-Having as a standard bearer the Innovation in Higher Education Processes factor, the Union of Latin American Universities (UDUAL), the Organization of American States and the General Secretariat of Virtual Educa, formally opened the first Forum in the Dominican Republic. Innovative Universities "of Latin America.

The meeting is organized by the University of the Caribbean, Vice Presidency UDUAL, Caribbean Region, based in the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), through which entities and academies analyze this Thursday and tomorrow Friday among other essential elements, the challenge imposed by the development of information technology for the field of higher education.

The first Forum of "Innovative Universities" in Latin America began with the presence of Mr. José María Antón, Secretary General of Virtual Educa; Dr. Roberto Escalante, Secretary General of UDUAL; Dr. José Andrés Aybar Sánchez, rector of UNICARIBE and Vice-president of UDUAL, Caribbean Region; Dr. Rolando Guzmán, rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Mrs. Nelly Gochicoa, Coordinator of the Consortium of the OAS universities and the scholarship program, teacher Ariadna Aybar de García, Executive Vice Chancellor of UNICARIBE, Dr. Rafael González, Deputy Minister of International Relations of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), on behalf of Minister Ligia Amada Melo de Cardona.

The welcome to the Forum was offered by Dr. Rolando Guzmán, rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and Dr. José Andrés Aybar Sánchez, rector of the University of the Caribbean and vice president of the UDUAL, Caribbean Region.
For his part, Mr. José María Antón expressed that this Forum is a space oriented to the new era in which universities offer new answers to present and future society, with the continuous innovation of higher education institutions being necessary.

He said that there is great interest in Dominican universities, because they are aware of the new, and that it is essential that they are part of the great networks of universities that exist in the world.

Within the framework of the activity, national and international academic experts discuss the topics of Internationalization of Higher Education, Relationships of Cooperation and Academic Mobility, the Role of Universities in Regional Integration of the Caribbean, Innovation in Higher Education and Knowledge management at the 21st century university.

The organizers highlighted that the forum constitutes an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about the innovative practices of information technology, in an effort to improve the quality of higher education. In addition to creating a space for analysis and exchange of experiences on success stories in virtual education.

Participating in the Forum are Dominican academics, representatives of institutions from Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and the United States, among others.
