Rectoría presents the new dean of the Engineering Area


SANTO DOMINGO.- The Rectory of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) announced the selection of Professor Arturo del Villar as the new dean of the Engineering Area for a period of three years until November of 2018. 

Engineer Del Villar is a graduate of INTEC's Industrial Engineering career, with a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from Georgia State University and a Major Economics (BBA) in Business Administration from Oglethorpe University in the United States. Del Villar relies on the engineer Carlos Cordero, who occupied the post since March of 2009. 

The selection of the new dean of the Engineering Area is carried out in compliance with the provisions of the Institution's Statutes, which in Article 33 grant the Rector the power to appoint the deans, after a prior consultation process that, according to the Regulations corresponding, includes the presentation of a shortlist by the Area Assembly. 

The selection process included the realization of a panel in which eight postulates shared with the academic community their views on the area and the initiatives that they would seek to promote during their term of office in case of being chosen. 

Del Villar indicated that he will focus his efforts on achieving the accreditation of the programs and laboratories in the area, strengthening the international positioning of INTEC, improving the link between the university and the productive sector and promoting research that responds to national priorities. 

The Engineering Area reports to the Academic Vice-Chancellor and its holder is a member of the Academic Council and the university strategic management team. The Area offers nine undergraduate programs, 12 graduate and 13 through 2 + 2, which allows students to complete half of their career at INTEC and the other in one of four recognized universities in the United States: Penn State University, University of Miami, The City College of New York and Western Michigan University, with a degree from the American University. 

The appointment of the new dean is for a period of three years, extendable for two consecutive periods depending on the results of its management.

Professional experience

Arturo Del Villar is a graduate of Industrial Engineering from INTEC. In the United States he studied Economic Engineering and International Business at Oglethorpe University in Atlanta. Completed courses in Operations Research and Operations Management at Georgia Institute of Technology; He earned a Master of Business Administration from Georgia State University and a minor in Export-Import Business from Mercer University.  

He worked at Scientific Atlanta in the area of ​​Quality Control for six years, reaching the position of Senior Engineer. In Miami, he worked for Teicorp International, a subsidiary of Hubbard Construction, one of the leading companies in the construction of large projects. In the 2009 he became a member of the Board of Directors of Marriott International in Doral Florida, coming to occupy the position of Vice Chairman in the 2012.

In the 2010, he creates the consulting firm Smart Grid Tecnologies that is currently working in the electric sector in Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Texas and Florida.
