They hold a forum on Intellectual Property Policies


El Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI) held the National Forum on Industrial Property Policies, an event that brought together dozens of representatives from national universities, research centers and institutions linked to the work of intellectual property in the country.

The event, organized as part of the Project "Empowering knowledge transfer in the Caribbean through effective IPR & KT regimes" (IPICA), It was held in the Julio Ravelo Room of the INTEC Fountain, with the aim of promoting Technology Transfer and Value Creation. 

Universities and Intellectual Property Offices from five countries have joined efforts to improve the capacity for innovation in the Caribbean region under the IPICA Project, which is funded by the European Commission under the ACP Science and Technology Program and develops different activities to support the international initiative.

In this sense, the INTEC carried out a benchmarking study, with the objective of studying the Intellectual Property Policies in the Caribbean universities, an important input for the design of policies in the matter. 

ONAPI, as part of the IPICA Project and in line with the National Innovation Strategy, supports this initiative by playing a proactive role in the dissemination of Industrial Property and its importance, its registration mechanisms and the economic benefits derived from it.

This Office, through its Technology and Innovation Support Center (CATI), offers guidance to students, researchers and innovators, bringing them closer to searching patent databases with the guidance of expert technicians so they can protect their inventions. through the registry.

The IPICA Project 

This Project brings together 13 institutions from five countries in the Caribbean and Europe, and will be developed over a period of three years; aims to streamline Science, Technology and Innovation policies and strengthen the capacity for innovation and regional cooperation for the Caribbean, with a view to strengthening the application of scientific knowledge to improve access to energy and efficiency throughout the region.  

It also seeks a better use of scientific knowledge in solving social problems, through the modernization of intellectual property policies, creating the capacity for knowledge transfer and fostering a culture of cooperation between the different actors of the innovation system, through promoting support services and best practice projects.

In addition to ONAPI and INTEC, the IPICA Project is made up of the University of Alicante, the Austrian University of Applied Sciences, the Technological University of Jamaica, the West Indies University, the Office for Harmonization of the Internal Market of Spain, the Spanish Patent Office and Trademarks (OEPM), the Ministry of Science, Technology, Energy and Mines of Jamaica, the Office of Intellectual Property, Jamaica; the Intellectual Property Office and the Ministry of Legal Affairs of Trinidad and Tobago, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Secretariat of the Caribbean Community.
