INTEC professor is recognized by the Rey Juan Carlos University of Spain


Santo Domingo. -The The ASISA Chair of Humanitarian Medicine at the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC), in Spain, recognized Professor Manuel Colomé, of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), as the best research work in Humanitarian Medicine, Public Health and Epidemiology for its study "Inequalities in Child Immunization coverage in Latin America and the Caribbean: ecological-analytical study and time trend".

The award, which was held at the Royal National Academy of Medicine on World Health Day, recognizes research that addresses social inequalities in universal maternal and child health coverage in Latin America and the Caribbean and how they translate into differences that affect the least favored groups of the population, with a view to meeting the objectives of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It also addresses the impact of the pandemic on vaccination rates in the world, the findings of which were presented at the World Congress on Health Systems Research in 2022 and recently released by the Vaccine Coalition of the Dominican Republic.

The studies were prepared from the INTEC Health Sciences Area, with the participation of Dr. Manuel Colomé as principal investigator and Dr. Ángel Gil De Miguel, from the Rey Juan Carlos University, and Dr. Juan Donado Campos, from the Universidad Rey Juan Carlos, as co-authors. Autonomous University of Madrid.

The teacher expressed the support received by INTEC and said that he will humbly receive the aforementioned recognition, with the promise of continuing to generate evidence from INTEC that allows transforming health systems, not only in the Dominican Republic, but also in the rest of the world. world.

“When they contacted me to inform me of the award, I did not believe it. I felt very good because some colleagues encouraged me a lot to apply. I am grateful for the support offered by INTEC because they have helped me with the translation, revision and, especially, doctors Miguel Robiou and Fernando Santamaría, in all my projects that are for the well-being of the Health area, go ahead, ”said the Doctor Colome.

Colomé, who is also the coordinator of the Master's Degree in Public Health and Epidemiology at INTEC, said that the research was conceived as part of a compendium of articles published from his doctoral studies in Epidemiology and Public Health at the Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC). , where he obtained an outstanding Cum Laude evaluation at the end of 2021.

The award was symbolically presented virtually by Dr. Elena Andradas, General Director of Public Health of the Ministry of Health of the Community of Madrid; Dr. Amos García, president of the Spanish Society of Vaccinology and Dr. María Angustias Prieto, coordinator of said chair.
