Northern Essex Community College visits the INTEC facilities


SANTO DOMINGO- The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) received representatives of the Northern Essex Community College (NECC), a college located in Haverhill, Massachusetts, interested in developing strategic alliances with the Dominican university.

The meeting held by the INTEC authorities with the NECC representatives took place in the Multipurpose Room of the Ana Mercedes Henríquez Health Sciences Area building, and included the intervention of the INTEC rector Julio Sánchez Maríñez, and Arturo Del Villar, Academic Vice Chancellor, followed by Lane Glenn, NECC President.

“I hope you find your visit to INTEC not only as an opportunity and investment efforts, but as an experience in which you hold different meetings and, why not? To have a good time together”, rector Sánchez Maríñez expressed to the representatives of the visiting university.

In their interventions, INTEC authorities expressed their objectives with this meeting and thanked all those present for meeting the activity whose conclusion will significantly impact the academic development of both institutions.

Arturo Del Villar presented the achievements of INTEC in recent years, as well as the international accreditations of some careers, including Medicine and Psychology. Likewise, he reiterated the institution's commitment to the development of new technologies and innovations from the different careers of the academic offer.

Glenn also welcomed the space, and confirmed his expectations for the meeting. Among those present were Michael r. McCarthy, NECC CFO and COO; Margaret Marotta, Superintendent of Harverhill Public Schools and Stacie Bloxham, Director of the Star program (supporting transitions and reentry). This team explored the opportunities for academic collaboration between INTEC and NECC together with the academic vice-rector of INTEC and Zobeida Ramírez, director of Learning Resources.

Mobility opportunities for students between both institutions were discussed by Michelle Sunday, Director of Transfer, Articulation and Academic Advising at the Center; Amy Callahan, Dean of Liberal Arts; Marcy Yeager, Dean of Academic Innovations and Professional Development and Francellis Quiñones, NECC Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Officer. They were representing INTEC Dalul Ordehi, dean of the Area of ​​Social Sciences and Humanities together with Maria Luisa Ferrand, coordinator of the Student Mobility Unit.

Anny Sosa, director of Institutional Relations, the director of Development, Inter-institutional Relations and Alumni Gregorio Tapia, and Belissa Best, director of Fundraising and Vanessa Robles, coordinator of Alumni, learned from NECC's experience in fundraising and mobilization of resources, while exploring potential engagement and learning opportunities with Allison Dolan-Wilson, NECC Vice President of Advocacy and Executive Director.

To analyze the management and organization of a university (teaching) hospital in the United States, Robin Hynds, executive vice president and director of operations of the Lawrence General Hospital on behalf of the NECC together with the dean of Medicine of INTEC Miguel Robiu; Pablo Smester, Simulation Laboratory Coordinator and Priscilla Sepúlveda, Institutional Relations Coordinator of the Health Sciences Area.

To obtain information on how to reach the community and business partners, the representatives of the George Ramírez Lawrence Association were talking with Heidi Sánchez, coordinator of the INTEC Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship together with Manuel Peña, dean of the Area of ​​Economy and Business and Luis Toirac, career coordinator of the Engineering Area.

The meetings concluded with an exchange of gifts between both institutions, followed by a lunch in which they were able to socialize and share among colleagues.
