Jimmy Barranco Ventura puts into circulation a book on healthy eating


SANTO DOMINGO. - The Master of Medicine and father of Dominican Nutrition, Jimmy BarrancoVentura put the book into circulation “Healthy eating, your best medicine”, work in which he compiles the articles of his column "Nutrition Clinic", which publishes in the newspaper Today since eight years ago.  

The event, held in the Julio Ravelo room of the Emilio Rodríguez Demorizi Library Fountain, coincided with the XNUMXth anniversary of the graduate program of Clinical Nutriology of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), of which Barranco Ventura is founder and coordinator, and of the World Food Day.

Dr. mercedes luciano, for his years of dedication in the specialty and Master of Obesology. Her husband, also Dr. Miguel Paulino, received the plaque in her name.

“Dr. Barranco has contributed to the training of the majority of nutrition specialists in our country and has instilled curiosity and respect for this discipline in thousands of doctors in various health areas. As an eternal scholar and tireless inquisitive he is a lover of excellence; he asks his students for it, but never without providing it beforehand in his master sessions. Participating in a university class, a conference in a scientific meeting or simply reading an article by the teacher is always a delight. His way of approaching a topic with all its details, so that the student or the reader can grasp the message, is simply fascinating”, said Ana Carolina Báez Abbott, prologue writer of the work.

On your side, Miguel Robioudean of Area of ​​Health Sciences, specified that the book is an educational compendium that aims to answer many questions, doubts and prejudices about food, which are rooted in popular belief, to the point of seeming as if they were irrefutable truths, but that lack a scientific foundation .

“INTEC, as a pioneer institution in clinical nutrition in the country, has issued a total of 1,784 postgraduate degrees in this area of ​​knowledge, in which 1,424 correspond to the Specialty in Clinical Nutrition and 182 to the master's degree in Clinical Nutrition; 133 to the master's degree in Obesology and Dietetics and 45 to the master's degree in Pediatric Clinical Nutrition. They are all highly trained and competitive specialists, committed to society in promoting health through food and with the responsibility of participating in the transformation of our food and nutritional reality," Robiou emphasized.

Likewise, Yleana Munoz, President of the Dominican Society of Clinical Nutrition (SODONUCLIM), said that nutritionists have the great responsibility of educating the population 365 days a year on how to eat. He assured that nutrition graduates are proud to be able to consider themselves children of Jimmy Barranco, whom he described as a great human being.

“On behalf of the Dominican Society of Clinical Nutrition, I thank the doctor for everything he does for the growth of everything and I ask God to grant him good health, so that he can continue to delight us with his tenths and his nutrition books” Munoz maintained.  

Dr. Barranco Ventura turned to the tenth to thank all those who supported him in the publication of his most recent work, as well as all those who accompanied him during its release.

“My ladies and gentlemen/teachers and students/authorities present, /I declare you ambassadors. /A bouquet of flowers/today I thank everyone who has responded to our call. /and on this night of glory/you are very welcome”, said the first stanza of the spinel of the prominent nutritionist.

While reciting he greeted those present, including the singers Olga Lara y Frank Reyes, also thanked Welcome Alvarez Vega, director of the Hoy newspaper, “for turning an illusion into an educational manual”.

Dr. Lebanese Ravine, prominent endocrinologist sister of Jimmy Barranco, made the opening prayer in which she declared God as the main protagonist of the act and asked for long life and health for her brother.

The launch of the book was attended by Altagracia Guzmán Marcelino, former Minister of Public Health; the engineer Ramon Garcia Tatis, vice-rector for Administration and Development of the Catholic University of Santo Domingo, Master Rafael Nino Happy, Former Vice President of Extension, UASD), Dr. Raquel Tejada (former president, SODONUCLIM and director of the CNC Clinical Nutrition Center), Dr. Ilonka Inoa Lozada, Responsible for the Nutrition Service; Rafael Happy Garcia, Minister of Youth, among others.

The book "Healthy eating, your best medicine" is on sale in the bookstore of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (LibrINTEC).
