Jatnna Tavárez: “We cannot see another woman as competition, we have to see an ally”

SANTO DOMINGO. - The communicator Jatnna Tavarez He considered that when women come together they are capable of the unthinkable. So she urged women to stop seeing other women as competition and start seeing themselves as allies.

By participating in the discussion “Woman, How do you do it?”, held by the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), as part of the commemoration of the Women's Day, Tavárez, along with other prominent women in different productive fields, reflected on the roles of women based on their life stories.

The initiative led by alliet ortega, vice-rector of Administration and Finance of INTEC, was developed within the framework of the cPinPún campaign Equalizing the Hive, with which the university seeks to promote the concept of equality through the deployment of key internal actions that will also allow obtaining the Equalizing RD Stamp, granted by the Ministry of Women.

In the conversation participated Josefina Vasquez, fashion designer of the Nina Vásquez brand; Elena Lopez, founder of the company STI Data and Business Intelligence; Kirssy Lorenzo, coach, mentor and writer; and Yazmin Yeara, content creator and entrepreneur.

During her speech, the television presenter highlighted the value of perseverance in order to achieve one's goals and "not letting fear stop us." She added: “We always have to take the step and dare within moral canons, within values, without having to stand on anyone's shoulders to have our own space.”

She also reminded the women present that “pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional.” She said “there are no second chances for a good first impression.” Tavárez considered it important to “Be consistent between what you say and what you do,” and “love what you are, love what you do and love the willingness to go beyond yourself.”

The conversation began with the designer Nina Vásquez who, after having acquired professional experience and working as an employee, took a step to begin her dream with the art of making for other people. Her brand Nina Vásquez is currently a registered franchise, and she is installing a center for wholesale distribution of her line with clothing designs aimed at “working women who believe in their dreams”, a market niche that she is targeting since this indicates that “When a woman comes to me it is because she is going to take a big leap.”

Likewise, Elena López shared her journey as founder of STI Data and Business Intelligence, a technological data management company. “What I have achieved as a leader fills me with great satisfaction,” this since her company has grown and has high staff retention rates, even after the COVID 19 pandemic.

Coach Kirssy Lorenzo thanked coaching because “it gave me the tools to overcome the limitations that society imposes on women” and invited those present at the activity to trust themselves. “If there is one word that I could sum up everything I have learned, it is trust in myself,” she said.

Content creator Yazmin Yeara shared her transition from law to the world of fashion. In turn, she expressed her pride in her mother, a determining piece that encouraged her in every step.

Alliet Ortega, moderator of this space, shared ten valuable reminders to all the women present, among them: Respect and love yourself, take care of yourself; You are amazing; You can do whatever you set your mind to; Being positive is an option and believe me it is the best option; You are prepared to be successful; Be brave, have courage; If you want you can and if you didn't try and learn, get back to it; No one should destroy your dreams; You are all different, don't fall into the comparison and "Love yourself, and then the rest."
