They identify European markets with greater potential for trade with RD

Santo Domingo. The economist Federico Cuello, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, spoke at INTEC about the country's opportunities in terms of international trade in countries of Europe and the Caribbean.

Cuello said that the Economic Association Agreements with the European Union (EPA) boost development if they are able to articulate with other trade areas such as CARIFORO-EU. However, he warned that "To develop a country is to change a country and the resolution of problems of application is not foreseeable under this new mandate."

Theoretically, trade is a means to development because it increases the size of the market for domestic goods and services. "It should allow growth to be greater than would be possible by meeting the more limited needs of the domestic market of the typical developing country," explained Cuello.

However, at present the management of international trade is scattered among multiple entities and is not managed strategically, which multiplies the distortions in the attempts to eliminate them.

The economist affirmed that changes in multilateral trade negotiations and international markets will continue to be written with greater speed, without multilateral rules conducive to development that allow countries like the Dominican Republic to preserve their policy spaces. "The focus will continue to be on damage control, not changing the current trend."

Cuello, a graduate of INTEC, has been Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic; Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Czech Republic and Poland in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Kingdom of Belgium and the European Communities fourth of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic.

He has also served as Research Professor of Development Economics and Economic Policy at the PUCMM; Senior Economic Advisor of the Chamber of Deputies of the Dominican Republic and Deputy Minister for Economic Reforms and Development Cooperation, Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development of the Dominican Republic; and National Economic Consultant of the Dominican Republic.
