Students, teachers and collaborators conclude the workshop “Intellectual Property applied to Research Projects”


SANTO DOMINGO. - A total of 13 people, including students, teachers and collaborators of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), concluded the workshop on Intellectual Property at the Service of Research Projects, as part of the training focused on researchersfacilitators y collaborators which offers the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Department, by virtue of supporting the strengthening of the university research system. .

The workshop, lasting eight hours distributed over three sessions, was taught by Alexeis Fernández, professor in the Engineering Area and intellectual property advisor at the Entrepreneurship Department. Students of Industrial Design, Civil Engineering, as well as teachers and coordinators from the Engineering and Economics and Business Areas participated in the program.

To date, two editions of the practical workshop have been held, where the topics of copyright, industrial property and strategic use of patent information were collected.

Intellectual property is the set of rights that correspond to authors and other owners with respect to the works and services resulting from their creation. Focused on the research projects, Fernández addressed the issues of intellectual propertyCopyright y related rightspatentsindustrial designsbrands patent law flexibilities.

“This workshop seemed to me to be an important and enriching opportunity for students to have the opportunity to base our knowledge on Intellectual Property since currently and always, patents will be a resource that will provide the inventor with a safe space to exploit to the fullest. your product through the market without fear of possible competitors copying your product,” explained Theily Cabrera, one of the workshop participants.

Throughout the training, workshops were also enabled Application of Intellectual Property in Creative Industries y Advanced patent drafting, in which participants learned the notions of drafting patent applications and inserting searches into patent information during the execution of R&D&I Projects.

Through the Directorate of Entrepreneurship and Innovation, a series of co-curricular initiatives are promoted aimed at promoting entrepreneurial culture and intellectual vitality in our academic community. At the same time, personalized advisory services are offered related to the management and protection of industrial property, which ranges from utility models, invention patents and industrial designs, thus safeguarding the creations of our intecians.
