Entities make up the National eHealth Strategic Committee


Santo Domingo. The Ministry of Public Health, the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), recently launched the National Strategic eHealth Committee, in response to the 2012-2017 Strategy and Action Plan in the Dominican Republic.

The Strategy and Action Plan of eHealth, is an initiative led by the Ministry of Health, approved in Washington at the 51 session of the Directing Council of PAHO and the World Health Organization.

EHealth is defined as the application of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in the wide range of aspects that affect health care, from diagnosis to patient follow-up, through the management of organizations involved in health care. this activities. This practice, assumed with public policies in several countries for about three years, improves the quality of the service and guarantees the security and confidentiality of the information.

The board of directors of the Strategic Committee is chaired by Dr. Freddy Hidalgo Núñez, Minister of Health, who announced that the strategy will contribute to the sustainable development of the National Health System of the Dominican Republic. He also informed that the application of the same will help improve access to quality health services, through the use of information technology and communication.

The Strategic Committee is also composed of the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Development (MEPyD), the Ministry of the Presidency, the Superintendency of Health and Occupational Risks (SISALRIL); the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), the National Health Service (SENASA), the Presidential Office of Information and Communication Technologies (OPTIC) and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). In addition, by two specialists in ICT and health: Dr. Fernando Rojas and Dr. Eddy Pérez Then, director of the Department of Knowledge Management of CEDIMAT.

"This initiative contributes to the sustainable development of the National Health System of the Dominican Republic," said the Minister of Health, Hidalgo. The adoption of the eHealth Strategy for the Americas seeks to improve access to health services and their quality, through the application of ICT, access to information based on scientific evidence, digital literacy, ICT training, among others. .

The INTEC has hosted forums and work spaces prior to the creation of the committee, as a way to contribute to the advancement of health information systems in the Dominican Republic, both technical and scientific as the Virtual Health Library (BVSRD ) of the country, which manages the institution.
