Virtual education implies total change of the educational system

SANTO DOMINGO.- The Spanish professor Julio Cabero Almenara said yesterday that universities have a great opportunity in virtual education, since the creation of contents for this new model forces them to evaluate and rethink the relevance of their academic offer and the type of learning that they want to transmit to their students.

Cabero Almenara presented his judgments by presenting the conference "Quality in virtual training" during the fourth International Seminar on Teaching Innovation in Higher Education entitled "Quality of Education in Virtual Environments", which organized the Teaching Management Division and the Center for Innovation in Higher Education (CINNES) of Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MEESCYT).

The professor, specialized in Didactics and School Organization, insisted that the big mistake that many institutions make in the face of virtual education is that they simply reproduce face-to-face education in virtual environments, "without thinking if that new scenario allows them to do things differently, "he said.

He argued that the new educational model requires a change in the role of teachers and students, since the teacher goes from being a transmitter of knowledge to a generator of learning situations, while acquiring new roles and competencies as creators of content, evaluator and technology selector and a moderator.

During the seminar, which was broadcast Live Stream, also exposed the researcher and university professor Germán Escorcia, who stated that the new educational paradigm expects the higher education system to be a system with "extraterritoriality", with offers that compete for aspirants from all over the world.

The Colombian Escorcia was in charge of the topic "Emerging economies and talent axes. Educate for certainties or uncertainty. "
