[dRD] 2018: the Dominican design party


SANTO DOMINGO.- The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Cultural Center of Spain (CCESD), with the collaboration of the National Intellectual Property Office (ONAPI), the magazine Architecture and the packaging design and manufacturing company Smurfit Kappa, will celebrate the third edition for the Design Biennial Dominican Republic [dRD], which will take place from 6 July until 15 for August.

This year the local design festival has as its central theme "The pedagogy of design", coinciding with the 30 years of foundation for the Industrial Design career in the country and at INTEC, a pioneering academy in offering a degree that trains product designers. The event aims to: show the work of Dominican designers abroad, publicize local design products, reflect on the design from a gender perspective, and about design and functional diversity.

On Wednesday 11 July, Dominican Designer's Day, there will be a meeting between the coordinators y directors of the different design careers in the country, in the Cultural Center of Spain, where they will reflect on the changes that have taken place since the foundation of these programs and their contributions to national development.

La exposure Outsi_DR will show products of the outstanding Dominican designers residing abroad José Durán, Carla Merino, Madeleine Grenade, Tony Peralta, Yuly Monsanto, Raúl López, Jose Subero, Gisele Sangiovanni, Ivan Mars, Karla Alcantara, Richard Delgado y Monica Valera, who, from Malaysia, Taipei, the United States, Germany and Italy, raise the name of the Dominican Republic through their creations.

Also, with the exhibition Tangencies how the convergence of architecture and industrial design in the products of Aguayo, Marmotech, Casa Alfarera, Gola y Stick.

In order to show the growing development of local design, the guided tours will be carried out TuZonadRD to visit designers workshops such as Jenny Polanco, and the MCK store, Local Store Design, The Espadrille y Bolós Gallery, commercial spaces located in the Colonial city where you can buy local products and witness all their creative process.

 The [dRD] 2018 program is available at disenord.com y www.ccesd.org and includes activities for adults and seniors, such as ceramic workshops, and for children, a workshop for making toys with recycled materials.

 All the activities are open to the public until full capacity and at no cost; workshops require prior registration. The exhibitions will be of Monday to Saturday, 9: 00 in the morning a 9: 00 at night, in the Cultural Center of Spain, located in Calle Arzobispo Meriño number 2 in Ciudad Colonial.
