INTEC teacher will participate in the cybersecurity forum of the Caribbean energy sector


SANTO DOMINGO. –The coordinator of the Cybersecurity Engineering career of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Osvaldo Larancuent, will participate in the Caribbean Energy Sector Cybersecurity Forum, held by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), from May 10 to 11, 2022.

Larancuent will speak about the advances in cybersecurity in the Dominican Republic, especially from the academic point of view for the training of talent. The INTEC teacher will participate together with exhibitors from the University of Trinidad and Tobago and Jamaica.

The event, which can be accessed via the link https://caribbeancybersecurityforum.vfairs.com/en/#agenda It is developed under the Strengthening of Public Services and Promotion of Energy Reform (SUPER) program, with the support of the Caribbean Electric Services Corporation (CARILEC) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), as well as the participation of the consulting company Deloitte. 

The INTEC teacher will present how the Dominican Republic is among the pioneers in Latin America and the Caribbean with the adoption of regulations on digital technologies, cybercrime and privacy, with Law 126-02, on Electronic Commerce, Digital Certified Documents and Signatures enacted in 2002, which regulated the validity of transactions and documents exchanged digitally, within the framework of the rise of electronic commerce.

In addition, he will explain about Law 53-07 on High Technology Crimes and Crimes, enacted in 2007, and Law 172-13 on Privacy and Protection of Personal Data. The teacher will highlight the contribution of the National Cybersecurity Strategy, the National Cybersecurity Center (CNCS) and the Cyber ​​Incident Response Center of the national critical infrastructure and IT of the Dominican State (CSIRT-RD).

INTEC is the first higher institution in the Dominican Republic with graduates of cybersecurity programs at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, also being one of the pioneers in Latin America and the Caribbean. It has currently signed agreements with public, private and civil society entities, including Cisco, Huawei, Fortinet, GBM Academy, AWS Academy, ISACA, VSA Consulting, National Cybersecurity Center (CNCS) and Banreservas.

The university teaches Cybersecurity engineering, a master's degree in Cybersecurity and a diploma in Cybersecurity Management.
