INTEC Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation celebrates World Intellectual Property Day in honor of women inventors


SANTO DOMINGO- The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI) commemorated World Intellectual Property Day with the activity "Women and Intellectual Property: Acceleration of Innovation and Creativity", in which they promoted female participation in innovation and invention issues.

Dayanara Rivera, technology analyst at Technology and Innovation Support Center (CATI) of ONAPI, evidenced the increase in women's ventures after the pandemic "as a result of the new needs that they had to supply in their homes in times of crisis," he said. In turn, she encouraged the innovative development of women based on the services available from CATI, including advice on industrial property, education, training, bonding and networking.

“Women around the world are driving scientific advances, setting new creative trends, building businesses and transforming our world,” she said.

During the meeting, Xiara Paulino, INTEC's press and content officer, spoke about the patents obtained by the university. He indicated that INTEC was the first university in the country to receive the granting of a patent in 2016 and, currently, it has a total of 12 patents, of which 8 correspond to utility models, 3 invention patents and 1 patent. of industrial design.

Of this group of patents, three of them had the significant participation of innovative women. She pointed out that Hildauris Veloz Ruiz was involved in the case of the patent for the handheld device for preparing meals; while the graduates Jennifer Taveras and Ariana Gabriela were part of the creation of the amphibious vehicle for people with reduced mobility.

Alina Mari de los Santos Torres collaborated in the case of the patent for the Particle Positive Electrode for Secondary Battery and its manufacturing method from a nanofiber membrane structure.

Carolina Pérez, professor of the Engineering Area, also recognized the creative and innovative work of industrial designers who hold patents, including Viviana Pérez, with the recycled aluminum weights; Adriana Vielma, with the grass cutting machine and her female students members of the Apollo 27 team, who represented the country in the NASA competition. In the same way, she shared her participation as the inventor of a coffin design made in 2005.

In the activity, Jofiel Castillo, in charge of the ONAPI Technology and Innovation Support Center, valued the importance of intellectual property in strengthening jal capacities by giving a talk on the subject, focused on industrial property and copyright.

The Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship of INTEC, attached to the Vice-Rector for Research and Liaison, is in charge of supporting the management of innovation processes, entrepreneurship, knowledge transfer and business development dynamics.
