Plastic Training and Research Center receives Recognition for Best Practices in the Matter of SDG 2023


SANTO DOMINGO- The Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), through the Public-Private Alliance with the Dominican Association of the Plastic Industry (ADIPLAST) and the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) won the gold medal in the IV edition of Recognition of Best Practices in the Matter of SDG 2023, by virtue of the presentation of the project of the Plastic Research and Training Center (CCIP).

The CCIP, which is based in the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), is an initiative of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs (MICM), through the Public-Private Alliance with the Dominican Association of the Plastics Industry (ADIPLAST) and the university.

The Center represents a shared vision and a joint effort of the alliance established through an inter-institutional agreement, it is a knowledge space conceived with the objective of strengthening human capital, innovation, technological and sustainable development of the plastic sector through offering specialized training services, specialized training, laboratory advisory services, consulting, research services and development and design services.

Inaugurated on May 11, 2022, the CCIP is part of the initiatives carried out within the framework of the Advanced Training and Technical Assistance Project for the Sustainability and Competitiveness of the Plastics sector in the Dominican Republic that began in 2021 INTEC, the State and the industry.

The Recognition of Good Sustainable Development Practices is coordinated by the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB), evaluated by the Council of Ibero-American Entrepreneurs (CEIB) and managed by the Ibero-American Foundation for Quality Management (FUNDIBEQ). Its purpose is to celebrate and recognize practices of excellence in the contribution of companies and civil society to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Víctor –Ito- Bisonó, MICM minister, considered the achievement as “a testimony of our constant responsibility with excellence and innovation in achieving our objectives.” He added that “these developments are a direct result of our commitment to excellence, quality and sustainability in all of our operations.”

Present at the award ceremony were the rector of INTEC, Julio Sanchez Mariñez; the vice-rector of Administration and Finance. Alliet Ortega and the Academic Vice-Rector Arturo del Villar. The companies Iberdrola México, SENASA and Turbotec México were also awarded.

During the event, the Ibero-American Quality Award, a Project attached to the Ibero-American Summit of Heads of State and Government, convened for the first time in 1999. It is carried out annually with the objective of “recognizing the Management Excellence of the awarded organizations in the international context and with it "contribute to the Ibero-American Community being considered an environment of Quality, where we can find the best suppliers, allies and investment opportunities."

Juan Luis Martín Cuesta, general director of FUNDIBEQ, explained the origins of the XXIV edition of the Award and spoke about its influence on countries internationally.

The winning institutions of this Award were Iberdrola, from Mexico and Helios Salud, from Argentina (gold); the National Electricity Operator CENACE of Ecuador (silver); the National Energy Commission and the Colombian Association of Cooperatives (ASCOOP), both special mentions.
