They train in dispute before WTO


SANTO DOMINGO. International trade and investment expert Edna Ramírez Robles presented at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) the technical mechanisms that can be used by the Dominican Republic, within the framework of the World Trade Organization (WTO), to defend effectively in situations of controversy.

The specialist, invited to the country by the Trade Defense Commission (CDC), offered a special seminar to academics and students, mainly from the International Business course and from the Masters in International Trade Management at INTEC.

The participants learned about the trade defense mechanisms available to the country through the CDC to defend national productive sectors that may be affected by unfair trade practices or sudden increases in imports.

The conference, in which the Observatory of International Trade (ODCI), it was held within the framework of the INTEC-CDC agreement to contribute to the strengthening of the country's capacities for the management of its international trade, within a framework of competition and compliance with international commercial norms.

The meeting was held at the Osvaldo García de la Concha Auditorium of INTEC, with the participation of Iván Gatón, President of the CDC, the Dean of the Business Area, Diómedes Christopher, Claudio Adams, Director of ODCI and Gianna Franjul, Executive Director of the CDC.

During her stay in the country, the Mexican specialist trained law and economics professionals, members of the Dominican Diplomatic and Consular School, members of the Judiciary and the technical staff of the CDC.

Profile of Edna Ramírez

Edna Ramírez Robles has a solid career as an international consultant for governments on international law and policy matters, particularly on issues related to trade and investment. He has advised several countries and institutions in Asia, the Middle East, Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean in technical cooperation projects financed by various international organizations, including the European Union (EU), the United Nations Conference for Trade and Development ( in English UNCTAD), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the Islamic Development Bank (IDB), TradeMark South Africa and the West African Economic and Monetary Union (UEMOA).

He has also worked within the secretariats of international organizations such as the WTO (legal affairs division), UNCTAD (trade facilitation), and the IDB (trade and integration sector). At the same time, she is Professor of International Economic Law at the University of Guadalajara and Visiting Professor at other universities.
