World Bank, CEPF and the INTEC Climate Change Observatory evaluate progress in community empowerment projects


SANTO DOMINGO- The World Bank, Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) and the Climate Change Observatory of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (OCCR INTEC) met semi-in person with the objective of evaluating the achievements achieved and those planned for Dominican Republic, Antigua & Barbuda, Saint Lucia and Jamaica within the framework of ProjectsCollaborative Social Accountability for Improved Governance in Protecting Biodiversity Hotspots¨ of the Global Partnership for Social Accountability (GPSA) of the World Bank and  ¨Promoting Collaborative Social Accountability in the Caribbean Islands Biodiversity Hotspot¨, with Conservation International Foundation.

Located in the radio classroom of the Ana Henríquez building, representatives of the INTEC Climate Change and Resilience Observatory met with representatives of international institutions to follow up on community empowerment projects that seek to strengthen the conservation of biodiversity in areas priority keys, among them the Miguel Domingo Fuerte Natural Monument located in the Sierra de Bahoruco and the Valle Nuevo National Park, in Constanza.

On behalf of the OCCR INTEC they were present Manuel hernández, project manager, John Almonte, specialist in Gender, Youth and Minorities and Rosaura Pimentel, environmental specialist of this initiative. Representing the other institutions were Natalia Magradze from the World Bank, Michele Zador from CEPF, Nicole Brown and Liliana Betancourt from the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI) and Nicola Bird from Integrated Health Outreach (IHO) in virtual mode, among others.

During the week of exchanges, representatives of the entities made field visits to supervise the execution of the projects by INTEC and the José Delio Guzmán Foundation, in those provinces. The data collected was also presented to the communities and public sector institutions.

Finally, a meeting was held with all civil society organizations that are being financed by CEPF, in which the issue of the Collaborative Social Audit Network of Community Action and Development for the Protection of Biodiversity (RASCAD) was addressed. developed by the project.
