Popular Association invests 5 million in scholarship fund in INTEC

Santo Domingo. The Popular Association of Savings and Loans (APAP) delivered RD $ 5 million to Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) for the creation of the “Give a Chance” scholarship fund, which will favor 15 high school graduates of academic excellence and limited economic resources.

The cooperation agreement between both entities was signed by the rector of INTEC, Rolando Guzmán, and the executive vice president of APAP, Gustavo Ariza, at the offices of the corporate building of the financial institution.

"Our purpose is to contribute quality training to young people of academic excellence and high human values, so we hope to deliver new talents to society with solid professional training," said Ariza at the signing ceremony of the firm.

For his part, Rector Guzmán thanked the Popular Association for the trust placed in the university to train professionals with the standards of excellence that have characterized INTEC in its 40 years of experience.

Dale un Chance is one of the main projects of the APAP Social Work Program, a corporate social responsibility program developed by the financial institution with the objective of investing in the formation of human capital in the Dominican Republic through higher education.

Implemented in 2011, the program is aimed at bachelors of public sector schools, who exhaust an internship in financial training for a period of three months.

The most outstanding interns of the program are awarded with university scholarships completely covered in careers related to the business sector.
Three students from the first class of the program, graduates of the Fe y Alegría schools, attend the third semester of the industrial engineering and systems engineering courses.

Through their corporate volunteering, the executives of the Popular Association participate in the training, evaluation and permanent accompaniment of the interns.

The Popular Association's investment in social responsibility programs, mainly in the areas of education and the environment, exceeds the RD $ 150 million in the last 5 years. The financial institution is ranked as the second institution in the Dominican financial system with the highest volume of social investment.
