INTEC team will represent the country in the World Programming Competition


SANTO DOMINGO. Three programmers of Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) will represent the country in the Final World Programming Competition of the ACM-ICPC, which will be held in Russia in June of 2014, after obtaining first place in the local (Dominican Republic) and regional (Caribbean) phases of the contest .

Young people Carlos Toribio (Electronic Engineering), Jeffrey Soriano and Nelson Taveras (Software Engineering) and those who make up the team called "In yo 'face!" Secured their place in the World Cup to be held in Yekaterinburg, Russia, when completing the largest number of programming problems and in less time than the other teams in several countries of the Caribbean region.

They faced teams from Cuba, Puerto Rico, Haiti, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Barbados, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, Martinique, Cayman Islands, Turks and Caicos, Trinidad and Tobago, Virgin Islands, among others.

For its results, the INTEC-RD team won the first place in the Caribbean region, tenth in the entire Latin American region (http://score.bombonera.org) and the title of the fastest team could complete problems of the regional final.

Throughout the preparation process, the members of "In yo 'face!" Had the support and support of their coach, Professor Carlos Joa, from the Engineering Department.
This is the second time that a Dominican and INTEC team represents the Dominican Republic in the World Final of Programming of the ACM-ICPC, held in Warsaw, Poland. At 2012, the country was represented by the team "Las Tortugas del Caribe", confirmed by students Carlos Toribio, Dennis Federico Castillo and Ronald Rey.

In the World competition, the INTEC-RD team will face programmers from over 65 countries representing the five continents. It will bring together programmers from Polinia, Russia, China, India, the United States, Brazil, among others, with high-level tradition in the area.

The ACM International University Programming Competition (ACM-ICPC) is an annual computer programming competition sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). It emerged in 1970 from a contest held at Texas A&M University, organized by the Upsilon Pi Epsilon Honor Society (UPE), and since then it has had an accelerated growth in the number of participating teams, institutions and countries (more information on the Fact Sheet).

Since 1989, the ACM-ICPC headquarters have been located at Baylor University. For its part, worldwide and since 1998, the event is sponsored by the International Business Machines (IBM) company. Previous sponsors: Apple (1989), AT&T (1990-1993) and Microsoft (1994-1997).
