25 years scholarship for academic excellence


Santo Domingo. Within the framework of its 40 anniversary, the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo DomingoINTEC, awarded scholarships to 72 young people from high schools and colleges in the country, through the INTEC Program with Outstanding Students (PIES), which upon arrival at its 25 anniversary, has awarded scholarships to a thousand young 433 and awards to more than two thousand students only because of their high academic indexes, regardless of their social status.

Through PIES, a pioneer in the recognition of student talent from 1987, the university reaffirms its commitment to academic excellence. To date, eight out of ten PIE students graduate with the highest academic honors.

Carlos González, president of Cemex Dominican Republic, was the keynote speaker of the XXV act of recognition of Young National Talents, held at the Casa San Pablo. Of the 72 students recognized on this occasion, five (5) are sponsored by the AES Dominicana Foundation, three (3) by the company Grupo Ramos and three (3) by the telecommunications company Claro.

The motivational speech was delivered by the student of Business Administration, Rosa Marielle Méndez Hiraldo, Young National Talent 2011 (XXIV Round).

Of the 672 applications received in this round, 359 students were evaluated and selected for their performance in the 89 students tests, of which 72 pursue the career of their choice in this academic institution and the rest only opted for recognition. Of those recognized in this installment 67% are women.

The XXV act of recognition of Young National Talents was held in the Auditorium of the San Pablo House and was headed by the president of the Board of Regents, Ana María Ramos, the rector Rolando M. Guzmán, and the academic vice-rector, Leandra Tapia.

Companies, institutions and families sponsor this program in general: AES Dominicana Foundation, Grupo Ramos, Philip Morris International, Electricity Company of San Pedro de Macoris (CESPM), Esso Dominican Republic, Orange Dominican Foundation, Dominican Electronic Market (MED).
Also the Engineering Promotion of INTEC 1985, the Kingsley Fernández family and the Báez Erazo family, sponsor scholarships to outstanding students.

Profile of Carlos González
González, a native of Veracruz, Mexico, is an Electronics and Communications Engineer from the Monterrey Technological Institute (TEC) and has a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Erasmus University, in Rotterdam, Holland.

He began his professional career as a Field Engineer at Schlumberger, a petroleum services company, and in 1999 he joined CEMEX as Director in the areas of Innovation and Financing, where he began a fruitful career that led him to direct the destinations of the operation of the company in Nicaragua during the period 2005-2008. That same year (2008) he was appointed President of CEMEX Costa Rica, and since 2011) he has been responsible for CEMEX operations in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, Bahamas and Jamaica.


On the FEET
The program identifies and selects outstanding baccalaureates from public and private educational centers throughout the country, in order to provide them with the opportunity to acquire high quality professional training and high social commitment at INTEC. For this, candidates must have scores on 80 points in all subjects of the baccalaureate, an average of 90 in the core subjects and undergo academic and psychological tests in the institution.


Results XXV Round 2012

In these 25 years, the PIES exhibits among its main achievements:

• 1,433 scholarships awarded.
• 2,108 young National Talents and 220 National Promises.
• 8,441 requests for participation, coming from public high schools and private schools throughout the national geography.
• 2,447 recognized young people from different public and private educational centers in the country.
• 77% of PIES students have obtained the highest academic honors.
• The PIES currently has more than 300 scholarship students, of which 72 entered INTEC during the August-October / 2012 quarter.
