Objective of the position
Lead the promotion of equality, gender equity and inclusion in the interventions framed in the BEA project. Improve access to inclusive, safe and quality education. Collaborate closely with implementing partners and prioritized actors to design strategies and programs that foster an inclusive educational environment that respects diversity.
Know and analyze the dynamics and interferences linked to gender, race and diversities that affect learning; therefore, its essential contribution is to offer advice, relevant data on gender inequality and intersectionality that contribute to the definition of strategies and methodologies. in all project interventions based on gender equality, social inclusion and equitable access.
The position will be located in the office in San Juan de la Maguana and will report to the Deputy Director General of the RD Basic Education Project, playing an integral role in ensuring close collaboration with the other consortium partners.
Project description
The Basic Education Project is promoted and financed by USAID within the framework of the Cooperation Strategy for the Development of the Country 2020 - 2025. Its general objective is to strengthen the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD) to improve reading. and social-emotional learning (SEL) for students from Pre-K through third grade with a focus on quality, equity, and inclusion. The project will be implemented in 675 schools in six Dominican Provinces: Elías Piña, San Juan de la Maguana, Independencia, Bahoruco, Pedernales and Barahona.
The Basic Education Project, funded by USAID and lasting 5 years, aims to improve access to inclusive, safe and quality education for boys and girls in the Dominican Republic. The Project focuses on timely literacy and social-emotional learning from Pre-Primary to third grade and in schools and communities in the southern provinces and the border region with Haiti, characterized by high levels of poverty, socioeconomic disparity and marginalization, as well as due to poor reading performance. The project will be implemented in the educational regions of Barahona – 01 San Juan – 02 and Bahoruco – 18.
Desired profile
- University degree in some of these areas at the Master's level or Specialization in Gender Studies, Primary Education, Educational Psychology.
- Proven experience of at least 5 years in the implementation and/or evaluation of programs or projects focused on gender, equality and social inclusion, preferably in the education sector.
- Mastery of conceptual frameworks, analytical tools and commitment related to gender, diversity and inclusion, as well as experience in the use of participatory approaches and qualitative and quantitative research methodologies.
- In-depth knowledge of social, cultural and gender dynamics in the Dominican Republic.
- Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams, excellent communication skills, and ability to establish effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Excellent organization and time management skills.
- Fluency in Spanish (oral and written). Additional knowledge of the English language will be an advantage.
- Availability to travel to Project provinces (Barahona, Bahoruco and San Juan de la Maguana).
Responsibilities
- Guarantee Gender Mainstreaming (TG) and inclusion in the strategies and intervention plans defined by the project, providing analytical elements and recommendations to overcome the barriers that affect the quality of education and learning.
- Design research and evaluation of programs related to gender and inclusion, analyzing data and generating recommendations to improve existing interventions and initiatives from the perspective of equity, gender and inclusion.
- Collaborate with different stakeholders to design and monitor that curricular programs promote equality, gender equity and inclusion at the pre-primary level and the first cycle of primary education in the project schools, identifying areas of inequality and exclusion.
- Represent the Project in meetings, events and work tables related to equity, gender equality and inclusion in initial and primary education.
- Support and accompany in the monitoring and evaluation of implemented programs and activities, collecting data and evidence to inform decision making and adjust strategies as necessary.
- Know and analyze the dynamics and interferences linked to gender, race and diversities inequalities that affect learning.
- Offer advice, relevant data on gender inequality and intersectionality that contribute to the definition of strategies and methodologies in all project interventions based on gender equality, social inclusion and equitable access.
