SANTO DOMINGO. -The Board of Regents of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) extended the deadline for receiving candidates for the position of rector of the University until September 30, 2020, due to the situation that affects the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and which in the country has led to the declaration of a state of emergency.

The INTEC Board of Regents reported that this new term will make it easier for those interested to complete their applications under more favorable conditions and will allow for the successful conclusion of the selection process for a new rector. The university regulations indicate that the position is designated by the Board of Regents in consultation with the Academic Council, for a period of three years, and may be reelected.

The current rector of INTEC is Rolando M. Guzmán, who assumed the position in 2011, ratified in 2014 and then in 2017, exhausting the three maximum periods contemplated by institutional regulations. Its management ends in this year.

To be the rector of INTEC “you must be of legal age, and be in full enjoyment of your civil and political rights. It is also required to be a university graduate at the postgraduate level, to have taught or scientific research for a minimum period of five years and to be a person of recognized moral solvency both in his public and private life ”, indicates article 35 the INTEC Statutes.

The objectives of the position are to direct the academic and administrative functions of the institution at the highest level, as the highest executive authority; lead the strategic approach and fulfillment of INTEC's missionary objectives, its sustainability, expansion and transparency.

In addition, to ensure the quality of academic practice in teaching, research and extension; influence the profile and recognition of graduates, the social participation of the university and the deployment of its values; foster permanent innovation and updating in the institution, and strengthen its position at the local and international level.
