INTEC donates ventilators to Hospital Ramón de Lara
Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, a group of INTEC professors and students with the support of allied companies have manufactured mechanical fans, in order to contribute to the fight against this virus
SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) donated al Doctor Ramón de Lara Military Teaching Hospital, of the Dominican Republic Air Force, five units of Air INTEC mechanical fan, manufactured by the university to alleviate the needs of the Dominican health system in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, which will be used in the intensive care unit.
During the award ceremony, which was held in the activities room of the Eduardo Latorre Postgraduate building, the rector of the INTEC, Julio Sánchez Maríñez, affirmed the satisfaction of the University of contribute with health center who has played a prominent role during the pandemic, and expressed that the donation of the fans is a modest contribution, but that it can serve many people at critical times.
"It is a source of pride that our teachers and students have been able to contribute from practically the beginning of the pandemic with various solutions, especially the manufacture of Air INTEC mechanical fans," said Sánchez Maríñez.

On behalf of the Ramón de Lara Hospital, the First Lieutenant Medical Intensive Care Unit, Dionesa Castillo, in charge of the COVID Unit of that health center, valued INTEC's contribution to society, through the construction of the ventilators.
“It is something admirable what you have done. Our fear was the number of patients and the few ventilators that we had that prevented us from providing assistance to everyone in the required way, but thanks to your dedication and ingenuity, we were able to get ahead. These ventilators will not only serve us for COVID-19 patients, but for other types of patients with diseases that require oxygen placement, ”he said.

The engineer Jessica Pamela Feliz offered technical information about the equipment designed by INTEC. The Air INTEC is based, in part, on the model of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) called E-VENT (authorized by the Food and Drug Administration, FDA, United States) and whose plans were released as Open Source.
The device, manufactured by a multidisciplinary team from INTEC, was classified as functional after two types of tests, the first, in a simulated and controlled manner in the INTEC Medical Simulation Laboratories and, the second, was carried out on humans in a medical center. Health.
