Writer Carlos Cabrera puts to circulate his book "Voices with flow"
The work collects 17 interviews that the professor of the Area of Social Sciences and Humanities of INTEC published in "Caudal" a quarterly magazine that he founded and directed from 2002 to the 2009
SANTO DOMINGO. Eight years after the magazine "Caudal" will stop printing in Santo Domingo, its founder and director Carlos Enrique Cabrera puts the lbook "Voices with flow", a compilation of 17 interviews y Chronicles made and published between 2004 and 2009 a literati, writers, philosophers y artisans and local residents associations of the national visual arts as foreigners.
"Voces con caudal is a book that is born from questions and that invites dialogue, an adventure of thought and reflection," said Cabrera during the activity held in the Osvaldo García de la Concha auditorium at the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).
He also revealed that the most important thing for him was that the voices of the interviewees and protagonists of his chronicles were heard and in no case his.
"A interview is a full length portrait and towards the depth of the interviewed character, a network of opportune questions that seek stimulate la sensitivity of the protagonist figure, to achieve that as far as possible he reveals himself as deeply as a creator and as a human being, without inhibitions or poses or conceits, without shyness or false modesty ”, said the professor of Area of Social Sciences and Humanities of the INTEC from 1994.
National interviews include Jose Guerrero, Yuly Moncion, María Ugarte Spain, Fernando Valerio-Holguín y Chiqui Vicioso. Of the international ones, names like Junot Diaz, Franklin W. Knight, Tomás Eloy Martínez, Mayra Montero, Sonia Rivera- Valdes, Santiago Roncagliolo, Alonso Sánchez Baute y Fernando Savater.
The chronicles that Carlos Cabrera presents in his book are: “Guillermo Arraiga: a storyteller”; "Alfredo Bryce Echenique: the narrator who writes with humor"; “Nélida Piñón or the passion for the adventure of life and words” and “Fernando Vallejo lived among us”.
In the presentation of the work, Cabrera acknowledges that Caudal magazine turned him "suddenly" into a cultural journalist, interviewer y chronicler. “It made me abandon my reading dresser and my comfortable work table in front of the computer. My loneliness as a writer ”, he acknowledged.
The work was presented by the also professor and academic Jose Guerrero, who appreciated Carlos Cabrera's effort to maintain the publication of the Caudal magazine for seven years and considered that it is still alive through the book “Voces con caudal”. He stated that Cabrera is a "stream of clean water in the middle of the swamp."
The dean of the Social Sciences and Humanities Area, Elsa Alcántara, said that with the publication of the work on Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo It contributes to the enrichment of the literary culture in the country and the generation of knowledge.
About the Author
Carlos Enrique Cabrera was born in La Vega province on July 1, 1952. He graduated in Hispanic Philology from the Autonomous University of Madrid and studied Library and Documentation at educational institutions in that city. He worked as an official of the Network of Public Libraries of the Autonomous Community of Madrid and as an external collaborator of Spanish publishers such as Editora Nacional, Plaza & Janes, Alfaguara and Playor.
He has written the books "Pocket Reflections", "Hard Times" and "Spells and Other Micro-stories". He is also co-author of the educational work "Spanish university" of the Santillana publishing house.
The professor also coordinates the annual program of tributes to representative figures "A day with the author and his work" carried out by INTEC through the Area of Social Sciences and Humanities.
