SANTO DOMINGO. -The enthusiasts of design in all its manifestations they will be able to enjoy the fourth edition of the Design Biennial Dominican Republic [dRD], which will take place from 11 to 18 JulyThrough virtual platforms. The event is organized by the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) And the Cultural Center of Spain (CCESD).

"SOS Design: Solutions in times of crisis" is the central theme of this Dominican design party in which tribute will be paid to the outstanding Dominican designer Mercy Jacquez, who died on June 25, and who was the forerunner of the celebration of the Dominican Designer's Day on July 11 of each year.

Due to the impact of COVID-19, all the events related to the Biennial will be broadcast from the YouTube account of the Cultural Center of Spain in Santo Domingo.

The event will start on Saturday 11 of July, A las 5: 00 in the afternoon, with the conference "Design, Emergency and future", which will be dictated by Ignacio Urbina Polo, professor of the Pratt Institute of New York, in moderation Carolina Pérez Puerta, professor of Industrial Design at INTEC.

On Monday, July 13, also at 5:00 in the afternoon, the audiovisual will be presented “Makers in the DR: community of creation”, produced by the students of Cinema and Audiovisual Communication of INTEC Genesis Erize Pantaleón, Silvia Betances Matos, Johansel Hernández, Nachell Feliz and Javier Soza, under the coordination of the professor of Industrial Design Angélica Rodríguez Bencosme.

Professor Joao Rodríguez will teach the Monday 13 to Wednesday 15 of July, the workshop "Designing for emergencies", in which proposals will be addressed to provide solutions to emergency situations in three lines: natural, technological and social. Likewise, it will be exposed on design strategies to respond, mitigate and recover in emergency situations. To participate in this workshop, registrations are open until July 8.

"Solidarity initiatives in times of pandemic", It will be the conference on Tuesday, at 5:00 in the afternoon, in which the different solidarity initiatives carried out in order to mitigate the effects of the current health and social crisis, generated by the Coronavirus (COVID-19) will be announced. including: the global initiative "Frenalacurva-Common Challenges"; the Reporta-do platform, the result of the work of different public institutions and social organizations in the Dominican Republic, and the results of the virtual meeting "Network roots", promoted by the Network of Cultural Centers of Spain in Central America and the Caribbean belonging to AECID.

Jacky Agramonte, Christopher Román, Pablo Oyarzo and Obed Canario will dictate the conference on Thursday 16 at 5:00 p.m. "The maker movement in the Dominican Republic", with the moderation of the industrial designer Angélica Rodríguez Bencosme.

For Friday July 17 with the title "The design is redesigned", several designers will reflect on the changes that their design processes and proposals are having since the global crisis caused by the pandemic. He Saturday 18, the closing conference will be "Challenge 19"This will present proposals for solutions to emergency situations in the Dominican Republic.
