SANTO DOMINGO. The minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCYT), doctor Alejandrina Germán, requested the Rector of Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), doctor Rolando M. Guzmán, socialize experiences de <strong>success</strong> of university with the rest of institutions de higher education of the country, as a way to support the strengthening of the national higher education system.

"The important thing is that we can socialize this INTEC experience, and raise that spirit of change and transformation towards quality also in other institutions," said the minister, who valued the academy as one of the ones with the greatest contribution to the quality of the education.

Germán made the call during a visit de courtesy that he gave to INTEC authorities, in which he argued that it requires foment el exchange among the country's universities to raise la quality of the system. In that sense, he welcomed the willingness that his authorities have shown to share their knowledge and experiences.

The Rector highlighted the support that INTEC receives from MESCYT, an institution that he described as an ally of the university and its projects. He stated that the academy has a high sense de commitment which is expressed in five orders: with the country, with the quality, With the inclusion, with The science y technology, and with transparency.

The meeting, which was held in the University Rectory Hall, was attended by a delegation from the MESCYT, which was made up of the Vice Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Plácido Gómez; the Director of the Cabinet of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Dr. Pedro Eduardo Gutiérrez; the technical secretary of the National Council for Higher Education, Alexandra Maldonado, and the Director of Communications of that state institution, Avelino García.

For INTEC, the Academic Vice-Rectors participated, Dr. José Feliz Marrero; Research and Liaison, doctor Víctor Gómez Valenzuela and Administration and Finance, engineer Alfonso Casasnovas; in addition, the deans of Engineering, engineer Arturo Del Villar; of Economy and Business, doctor Armando Barrios; of Basic and Environmental Sciences, doctor Leticia Mendoza; of Social Sciences and Humanities, Elsa Alcántara, and of Health Sciences, Dr. Raymundo Jiménez, as well as the Director of Finance, Juan Ramos.

Tour of the campus

After the meeting, in which the representatives of the Academic and administrative areas they presented their projects the rest high impact, the entourage made a route by three of the labs the university has, in the company of the engineer Vesselina Radeva, in charge of the Engineering laboratories.

The first stop was the Haas Technical Education Center Industrial Process Laboratory (HTEC) located in the Fernando Defilló building, which develops the design, manufacture and maintenance of all kinds of pieces, fixtures, molds, dies and high quality metalworking pieces, and in which they were attended by its manager, Pedro Disla; followed in that same building, they visited the Materials Testing Laboratory, the first laboratory in the country with an internationally accredited test to perform tension on metals, and with an accreditation from the Mexican Accreditation Entity (EMA), where they were received by its manager, the engineer Laura Ramírez.

Finally, the authorities of MESCYT and INTEC addressed the Nanotechnology Laboratory, located in the Ercilia Pepín building, where Dr. Melvin Arias showed the unique equipment in the country that he has, which are available to carry out different tests on a wide range of materials, and provide services, and which were acquired for financing of National Fund for Innovation and Scientific and Technological Development (Fondocyt).
