Objectives

The main objective that guides the design of this Master's Program in Research Methodologies in Social Sciences is to train researchers with the necessary knowledge to consistently use the different theoretical approaches, methodological and analytical tools of social sciences, which allow significant contributions to the knowledge of the current Dominican society, providing quality information to solve problems and to guide decision making efficiently. To train researchers with the necessary knowledge to use in a coherent way the different theoretical approaches, the methodological and analytical tools of the social sciences, that allow it to make significant contributions to the knowledge of the current Dominican society, in a global and changing context.

Specific objectives

The graduates of this Master's Program will be endowed with a set of theoretical and practical knowledge that will allow them to conduct social research in the local and regional context with the necessary academic quality, to make a significant contribution in their respective disciplinary areas.

Strengthen knowledge about the different research designs, the definition of information collection instruments and their subsequent analysis, which confer scientific rigor on social research.

Develop the skills for managing academic databases, electronic information processing and scientific writing for publications in indexed journals.

To create a community of knowledge, integrated by academic community, civil society and State, destined to the analysis and reflection on the most current problems of Dominican society and its local and regional contexts, which allows to maintain the links between the production of knowledge and its application in problem solving and policy design.

Graduate Profile

The Master's Program in Research Methodologies in Social Sciences is aimed primarily at professionals in the disciplines of Social Sciences and Humanities; specifically, sociologists, psychologists, economists, marketers, demographers, educators, among others; whose fields of work demand the frequent use of the application of scientific research methodologies and techniques. Although other professionals from different areas of knowledge are not excluded, provided there is a willingness to dedicate the necessary time to combine classroom participation and field practices, or virtual activities.

Professional profile

In functions of planning and / or design of development programs or projects. Also, in the field of higher education as teachers, the teaching of the methodology itself, or in some of the topics that are part of this program.

They can carry out applied studies such as diagnoses or baselines to establish the starting point of a social intervention; cross-sectional or longitudinal studies to evaluate processes; market studies ex – before or of impact to evaluate the situation of a product in the market or of a new idea in a population; experimental or quasi-experimental studies to measure innovations in different areas of social life; popularity polls or electoral preferences; exploratory studies to find out examine a problem or little known; among others.

You will be able to prepare different types of research design, recognizing the type of situation or problem that you want to know; develop measuring instruments; and carry out applying the pertinent analysis of the information collected.

As leaders, they demonstrate an open capacity, with the ability to maintain an open attitude to different perspectives of the same situation, and with a broad sense of social responsibility.

He is a professional capable of presenting the results of his research in academic, institutional and society spaces in general, through digital or written media in traditional media or in scientific journals; in accordance with ethical and socially responsible values.

Career Opportunities

People who graduate from the Master's Program in Research Methodologies in Social Sciences will acquire the necessary skills to work in public and private institutions, in management functions of research teams, or as part of these teams, are already destined for research social properly or as part of multidisciplinary teams. The Master in Research Methodology in Social Sciences contemplates three final concentrations or departures at the option of the participants, which will be developed under the modality of open seminars.

  • Public policies and social participation: To deepen the knowledge of needs diagnoses or baselines, for the design, implementation and evaluation of public policies with the participation of the population.
  • Education, Innovation and technologies: Analyze the teaching-learning processes and their implications in the quality results of pre-university education, as well as the use and application of different pedagogical resources.

    • Two letters of academic recommendation on a stamped sheet and stamped by the issuing institution.
    • Essay with motivations to enter the program and line of research to work, minimum of 2 pages.
    • Payment and registration ELASH test (or 108-120 ELASH or TOEFL 450-500). Intermediate English level.
    • Interview with the coordination of the program to which it applies

    Important note

    Documents that are not in Spanish must be translated.

    Legalizations
    • Member countries of the Hague Convention: If the country of emission belongs to the Hague Convention, it must make the apostille of the documents and their translations into Spanish in the competent institution of that country.
    • Countries that do NOT belong to the Hague Convention: If the country of issue is NOT within the Hague Convention, you must legalize the documents and their Spanish translations at the Dominican Consulate / Embassy of the country where they were issued and then by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Dominican Republic.
    • If the translation is done in the Dominican Republic, it must be done by a judicial interpreter and legalized in the Attorney General Office of the Dominican Republic.
    To apply for the tariff in Dominican pesos:
    • You can submit a certificate of Permanent Residence issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) and that it shows that it is valid for 4 years or more.
    • Foreigners with Dominican parents, must deliver the original birth certificate of any of them.
