Doctorate in Mathematics
The PhD in Mathematics proposes the training of high-level researchers and specialists, the invigoration of research in mathematics in the Dominican Republic, supporting productive development and national competitiveness, as well as fostering academic collaboration with international experts and researchers. Research is the fundamental aspect of the program, which is conceived as a systematic training process focused on research. Its main goal is to lead the student towards the frontier of updated knowledge in a specific field of Mathematics, so that he can do a doctoral thesis that presents original results with relevant contributions.

Objectives
- Contribute to forming the human capital required to provide a solid and updated mathematical training within the curricular offer of universities, both in the undergraduate and postgraduate, especially in the areas of science, technology and engineering.
- Significantly increase research activities in the country that lead to the creation and publication of new mathematical knowledge.
- Contribute to the creation of academic and institutional structures, required for scientific research in our country.
- Position the Dominican Republic as a country where scientific research is carried out in the area of Mathematics in Central America and the Caribbean.
- Attract scientists and students from other universities and countries to carry out scientific programs in our country.
- Having a doctoral program in the medium term that has a strong presence of Dominican scientists in the area of Mathematics.
Graduate Profile
The graduate of the Doctoral Program in Mathematics will be able to:
- Show systematic understanding of the historical development of the main areas of Mathematics that allow you to understand and assess your current status and open problems.
- Master research methods and techniques in at least one area of Mathematics.
- Identify, propose and develop research that transcends the frontier of current knowledge in an area of Mathematics, taking into account its difficulties and relevance.
- Obtain original and relevant results, with merits to be published in scientific journals, which can be referenced in subsequent research, as well as published in other languages.
- Contribute to the training of the human resources required to promote the development of scientific production in the Dominican Republic.
- Show a creative, critical and reflective thinking that allows the use and mastery of contemporary bibliography and the development of own criteria to be interested in a current scientific context.
- Select the appropriate methods for the development of your research with a senior scientist and thus contribute to the scientific and technical progress of the nation.
- Work as a team promoting multi-inter-and-trans-disciplinary networking collaboration.
Study plan
The Doctorate in Mathematics is designed to have a minimum duration of three and a maximum of five years and its final activity is the defense of the thesis.
- Expose and analyze with rigor and clarity their results before a specialized group and defend, scientifically arguing, their points of view and conclusions, showing their ability to listen and respect scientific criteria contrary to theirs.
- Show a high spirit of consecration, simplicity, professional behavior and commitment to the development of science and technology in the Dominican Republic and the world. Developing its activities in the academic area and in the productive area with high values of ethics and responsibility.

Research activity
The doctorate is the result of the academic and scientific collaboration of the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Pontifical Catholic University Mother and Teacher (PUCMM). The doctorate will be articulated from the groups and lines of research that specifically each of the universities develops.

Important note
Documents that are not in Spanish must be translated.
Legalizations
- Member countries of the Hague Convention: If the country of emission belongs to the Hague Convention, it must make the apostille of the documents and their translations into Spanish in the competent institution of that country.
- Countries that do NOT belong to the Hague Convention: If the country of issue is NOT within the Hague Convention, you must legalize the documents and their Spanish translations at the Dominican Consulate / Embassy of the country where they were issued and then by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the Dominican Republic.
- If the translation is done in the Dominican Republic, it must be done by a judicial interpreter and legalized in the Attorney General Office of the Dominican Republic.
To apply for the tariff in Dominican pesos:
- You can submit a certificate of Permanent Residence issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MIREX) and that it shows that it is valid for 4 years or more.
- Foreigners with Dominican parents, must deliver the original birth certificate of any of them.
