Energy Engineering

Energy Engineering is a profession that includes the application of mathematics, electrical physics, chemistry, economics, and the environment to develop more efficient and sustainable sources of energy and improve the operation of buildings and production processes. All this together with knowledge related to the social field and environmental pollution.

That said, its knowledge is applied in order to solve the problems of production, processing, storage, distribution, and use of energy using multiple techniques, such as synthesis, analysis, design, and case studies. In the same way, propose prevention strategies and alternative solutions to the problems of energy supply, as well as the needs for the achievement of the objectives of sustainable development.

The program has elements of fossil fuels with the incorporation of courses focused on renewable energies and electrochemical engineering, as well as professional options in business, finance and administration. Graduates of the program will be able to understand the engineering fundamentals and apply that knowledge to solve problems in the production, processing, storage, distribution and use of energy preparing students to become valuable collaborators to address the needs and energy demands of society.

Why Energy Engineering?

The growth of electricity consumption has forced countries to look for new sources of energy, which can be exploited in a sustainable way. This is the case of renewable energies. So the demand for Energy Engineers has increased over the years.

Engineers and scientists are required to understand the impact of solutions and decisions on built and natural systems, thus achieving a sustainable planet. Where is submerged in the search for new energy sources through the development of processes and new technologies.

Finally, it is important to note that the Energy Engineer not only seeks solutions to new energy sources, but also works in the production of energy through natural resources such as oil and gas extraction.

  • Interpret and apply legislation and regulations, as well as the appropriation of management tools, tools and technologies to propose sustainable alternatives in energy terms.
  • Coordinates and participates in teams and multidisciplinary projects to offer solutions, develop research and innovations for the field of Environmental Engineering at the national and international level.
  • Ensure effective communication in different contexts.
  • Identify, diagnose, forecast and propose prevention strategies and alternative solutions to the problems of energy supply, as well as the needs to achieve the objectives of sustainable development.
  • Lead or participate in sustainability projects, in different roles and levels.
  • Perform high-level management positions or start your own company through the implementation of external consultancies, due to the comprehensive training in values and areas of quality, leadership and entrepreneurial development you receive during the race.

  • Internationalisation

    "INTEC / PSU: 2 + 2" starts from August of 2009, with the option of entering this program every August (1). Students admitted to the programs included in the "2 + 2" will have an automatic provisional admission in PSU. During their training cycle at INTEC, they will receive the necessary advice and follow-up to comply with the requirements demanded by this university. Upon successful completion of the first two years, they will automatically enter the chosen career. The academic title will be issued by Penn State University and the Technological Institute of Santo Domingo (INTEC).

    Notes: (1) Students who enter in August will be assured to take 2 years in INTEC and 2 years in PSU. However, students who enter the institution outside of this date are not guaranteed this period of stay; it will vary according to the terms of the foreign university.
