Universities analyze the sustainable management of the campus

More than 16 universities met to discuss the importance of environmental management on university campuses in the second Forum of the Dominican University Environmental Network (RAUDO), which chairs the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).

Javier Benayas del Alamo, full professor of the Department of Ecology of the Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM), spoke as the main speaker of the event on "Environmental Sustainability in the University Campus", held at the Cardinal Beras Rojas Auditorium at the Santo Domingo Catholic University ( UCSD).

Benayas presented an investigation that he headed in the 2011 year in which university sustainability policies were evaluated to facilitate the development of international excellence campuses where 27 Spanish universities participated.

The central point of the Forum was the Board of Rectors of RAUDO universities, who presented their concerns regarding the main challenges confronting Dominican universities to achieve environmental sustainability, the commitment of their institutions to develop and implement environmental management policies and develop research in this regard.

The Board of Rectors was integrated by the Reverend Father Jesús Castro Marte, rector of UCSD; Rolando Guzmán, president of INTEC; Salustiano Mojica, rector of the National Evangelical University (UNEV) and Esteban Tiburcio Gómez, rector of the Technological Institute of the Cibao Oriental (ITECO).

The RAUDO Forum, held at the 14 in November, is part of a series of forums that are held in Latin America and are supported by the United Nations National Program for the Environment (UNEP), through its GUPES initiative by its acronym in English (Global Universities Partnership on Environment for Sustainability).

The results of the same will be presented in the First Latin American Forum of Universities and Sustainability that will be celebrated at the beginning of this month in the University of Valparaiso in Chile.
