A video game, devices for vehicles and a greenhouse in Intecnología'11


From the 23 to the 25 in November, INTEC held its technological and project fair

Santo Domingo. With the Indian Republic as a guest country, the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) celebrated the seventh edition of its technology fair, Intecnología 2011, where the projects created by its students were exhibited.

"INTECnología is essentially an expression of INTEC's commitment to defining a new pattern of growth and development in the Dominican Republic, in which science, technology and innovation should play an increasingly relevant role," said the Rector, Rolando M. Guzmán in his speech during the opening of the fair last Wednesday 23 in November.

Guzmán recalled the approach of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), according to which "you can not think about long-term policies without taking into account the role that science, technology and innovation".

Deepak Bhojwani, Ambassador of India in the country, affirmed that "without devotion to ideals, dedication and discipline, there can be no success" and highlighted the participation in the Center for the Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) fair, which supports the Center for Computer Excellence that was recently created in Santiago de los Caballeros.

The formal opening of the technology fair was attended by the representatives of Orange Dominicana, sponsor of the event, as well as Claro, Viva, Wind Telecom, Tricom, Cemex Dominicana, the National Office of Industrial Property (ONAPI), the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL), National Statistical Office (ONE), Cecomsa, EPS, Sang DataRed, Aeropost, Bonanza SA and Center for the Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) and Q-Bex. The BHD bank, Ambev Dominicana, Dominos, Body Shop and Vital Malt also participate.

In the inaugural ribbon cut they accompanied Guzmán and Bhojwani, Razvan Ungureanu, vice president of IT of Orange Dominicana, Eulogio Santaella, president of the Dominican-Indian Chamber of Commerce and Domingo Peña, deputy director of ONAPI.

Among the most important events of 2011 Intecnology were conferences "Innovation applied to the Construction Industry" by the president of Cemex, Carlos Emilio González and "The future of Technology", by Frederic Emam-Zadé.

In addition to this, a video game of the INTEC campus, created by future systems engineers, and projects such as Effenergy, which allows vehicles to consume less fuel and have fewer emissions, by applying the Sterling engine principle.

Among the prototypes presented by students of the Industrial Design career were several furniture that solve problems to the tourism sector, as a device that allows to locate taxis and locate addresses or a cart to speed up the cleaning of hotel rooms and turn them on time to tourists.

On the third day of the fair it was demonstrated live how mobile applications are built for Android technology in Smartphones and applications were given to users (Android application restaurant ").

This year the advances of the first Formula SAE car made in the country, developed by students of Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics and Medicine of INTEC, were presented. It is being built to compete in 2012 in the race organized by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE).

Cultural anteroom

The prelude to the fair included a film cycle of films like Gandhi, Slumdog Millionaire and My Name Is Khan, which were screened from 7 to 23 in November at the García de la Concha Auditorium of the university.

Likewise, on Monday 21 was presented the panel "India: looking for its place from the South in the XXI Century", led by the Ambassador of the Republic of India in the country, His Excellency Deepak Bhojwani, who spoke on the growing development of that nation. This meeting was chaired by the rector Rolando M. Guzmán with the president of the Dominican-Indian Chamber of Commerce, Eng. Eulogio Santaella and the economist Ramón Pérez Minaya.

During the 23, 24 and 25 days of November, students and visitors enjoyed a closing sponsored by the organizers.

The fair, which is held from 2005, is dedicated every year to a different country. In previous years the sponsorship has been to Italy (2007), United Kingdom (2008) and France (2010), whose ambassadors will be recognized at the opening ceremony.
