A National Pact to transform the education system


SANTO DOMINGO. The President of the Republic, Danilo Medina, presented last Thursday the National Pact for a Quality Education for All, under the coordination of the Economic and Social Council (CES), and called on all sectors of national life to join forces and will to transform the national educational system.

The ceremony, which took place in the Juan Bosch Auditorium of the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library, in the Plaza de la Cultura, was attended by businessmen, politicians, teachers, students, artists and other representatives of national life, among them the rector of INTEC, Rolando M. Guzmán, also member of the CES.

Medina said that the plan addresses key aspects that will reach the three educational levels, improving universal access, respect for school schedules and schedules, dignify the teaching work and link academia and private sector.

In that sense, the National Pact for a Quality Education contemplates several actions for the Pre-university education, which are: universal and quality pre-university education, compliance with the schedule and school calendar, a program of studies for the 21st century and teachers in career, certified and chosen by contest according to their merits.

In addition, it includes proposals for the dignification of the teaching work, permanent evaluation of all the actors, to guarantee results and modernization and restructuring of the public education system.

Regarding ESuperior education, the proposal includes tasks to make higher education accessible to all, especially those who have less, the application of entrance tests and accredited careers, to guarantee quality, educational offer oriented to employment and with international standards. Likewise, excellence in education for educators is a firm commitment to science and technology, hand in hand with companies.

On the FProfessional Technical Education, the Pact states that it is for everyone, especially for those who have least, that there is an integrated, flexible and efficient offer, up to international standards, aimed at employment and the development of the country, and that the certification of Professional technical training centers, to guarantee quality.
