Three Intecians receive recognition for their leadership in medical practice


Dr. Jimmy Barranco and doctors Wendy Gómez and Berniza Calderón were recognized as “Influential Personalities DiarioSalud 2023”

SANTO DOMINGO. - The doctors Jimmy Barranco, Wendy Gomez y Berniza Calderón were recognized as “Influential Personalities DiarioSalud 2023”, an award given annually by the magazine Health Diary to people and leaders within institutions, who have contributed to the health system through projects that impact the well-being and health of Dominicans.

El Dr. Barranco, Master of Medicine y Father of Dominican Nutrition, received the award in the category “Health Education”. His teaching career at INTEC began as a professor in the subject of biochemistry; In 2002 he presented the proposal for a master's degree and specialty in Nutrition, programs that he has successfully coordinated for 20 years, training generations of medical specialists.

The prize in Research and Development category fell on the Dr. Berniza Calderón, endocrinologist and nutrition specialist, with a focus on obesity, metabolism and diabetes. He received the “Extraordinary Doctorate Prize”, awarded by the Official Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies Commission of the University of Alcalá de Henares, after defending his doctoral thesis “Male hypogonadism associated with moderate to severe obesity and its treatment through bariatric surgery” .

La Dr. Wendy Gómez García received the award in the category “Policies and Public Health”. She is a graduate of INTEC Medicine With honors Magna Cum Laude and was recognized as an Outstanding Graduate of the university in 2015. She completed her specialty in Pediatrics at the Dr. Robert Reid Cabral Children's Hospital, endorsed by UASD. She also specialized in Pediatric Hemato Oncology at the National Pediatric Oncology Unit (UNOP), with endorsement from the Francisco Marroquín University, Guatemala.
