Senate recognizes INTEC for 50 years of contributions to higher education


SANTO DOMINGO. El Senate of the Republic recognized al Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), after having arrived at their 50 years of foundation with valuable contributions to Dominican higher education, marking a quality seal y excellence in its graduates that generates a high benefit to society.

When leading the recognition act, the president of the Upper House, Eduardo Estrella, highlighted the work of INTEC as an academy of higher studies, with high values ​​in the quality of innovation.

“INTEC represents what is a gesture of dedication, of integrity. With the founding of INTEC, more than 50 years ago, we are facing a group of men and women who at that time saw the need to improve academic quality; which has not only been maintained over time, but has been and is improving every day”, Estrella pointed out.

The president of the Senate described as “highly positive”, the fact that to be a graduate of INTEC, it is necessary to achieve academic excellence, which implies that students have to work harder and harder to achieve this goal.

To recognize INTEC, the Senate plenary approved a unanimity a Decision Presented by Senator National District, Faride Raful, who highlighted the commitment of that university.

“I am not an Inteciana, but as a Dominican, over the years. I have seen the quality of numerous professionals who embody what we need more and more, that is excellence, and commitment, therefore, to recognize INTEC is to recognize them, who for five decades have put these qualities into operation and have nurtured the spaces where they develop”, said Raful in the act held in the Multipurpose Room of the Senate.

The legislator also indicated that talking about INTEC is talking about excellence and commitment, in the National District and in the Dominican Republic, "the first of these qualities makes us think about the high academic performance of its students and graduates, and the articulation of its teaching and research staff in innovation processes within the country; the second refers to the sense of social and economic opportunity with which it develops its academic offer and its scholarship programs, therefore, to recognize INTEC academically is to proclaim that we believe that if we strive to do things well, with quality, commitment and empathy We are heading to a better country.”

Likewise, Raful advocated for many more 50 years of INTEC, and described the academy as an institution always championing excellence that has a firm commitment to training professionals who "fill the spaces in the labor market, contributing, innovating, but, above all, , transforming the Dominican Republic into values ​​of honesty, dignity, and of course, meritocracy, which is what we need, more than ever."

The Senate of the Dominican Republic recognized the half century of excellence in higher education of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) as a private entity for social transformation and development of the Dominican Republic, committed to their country, for which they put their intellectual training based on high moral principles and social responsibility at the service.

When thanking the recognition, the rector of INTEC, Julio Sánchez Mariñez, expressed that receiving a tribute from the first power of the State, not only fills the Rectory, the Board of Regents, the professors and the administrative and support, but invites them to try to be better every day.

He pointed out that the mission of INTEC is the social transformation of the country for the preservation and improvement of the moral and material heritage of the Dominican Republic and to leave it improved to the new generations, influencing the quality of life of Dominicans through education, science and the technology.

In this sense, he insisted that INTEC is a university for an academic and intellectual elite, not a socioeconomic one, while highlighting that 30% of student enrollment receives some type of scholarship or discount, and that the same percentage of students comes from provinces as far away as Dajabón, Montecristi, Elias Piña, Azua, etc.

He also argued that the almost 13 graduates from the University's Engineering Area represent 40% of the total enrollment of the Dominican College of Engineers, Architects and Surveyors (CODIA) when architects and surveyors are discounted, "so we are largely responsible for the training of engineers in the country”, he said.

To recognize the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo, the Senate explains that INTEC has contributed to the transformation of the country and the continuous promotion of the quality of life of its inhabitants, as well as that of their moral and material heritage.

"That he Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) has been responsible for the higher education of a large part of the renowned professionals of our country, including two presidents of the Dominican Republic, demonstrating that excellence is the north of its values ​​”, is indicated in one of the recitals of the legislative initiative.

Another recital explains that INTEC has been characterized by being at the forefront of needs, by offering careers in accordance with the demands of the new times, that respond to the needs of the national productive sectors and that offer students greater opportunities for their development and professional growth.

In addition to the president of the Senate, Eduardo Estrella, in the act of recognition of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), attended by senators Santiago José Zorrilla (El Seibo), vice president of the Senate; Lía Díaz Santana (Azua) and Ginette Bournigal de Jiménez (Puerto Plata), secretaries of the Management Firm; Faride Raful (National District), proponent of the Resolution; Melania Salvador de Jimenez (Bahoruco); and Virgilio Cedano (La Altagracia).
