Multidisciplinary teams are required to address complex social issues, says specialist

SANTO DOMINGO. – Faced with complex social scenarios, solutions can be found through dialogue between professionals from different areas, as stated juliet haidar, doctor in Political Science of the National School of Anthropology and History, during his keynote speech that kicked off the science week XNUMX of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC).

Haidar developed the theme “Science and transdisciplinarity: ruptures and epistemological convergences for the XNUMXst century”, in which he addressed the importance of studying scientific issues from different disciplines and thereby highlighted the importance of dialogue to solve complex problems in society. Transdisciplinarity refers to the research format in which various disciplines connect and create a holistic approach, he explained.

The specialist cited as an example the world scenario marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, which he said could only be addressed from various areas of knowledge, "a problem so complex that only a multidisciplinary team could realize the situation," he said.

INTEC will carry out its third science week from November 7 to 10 and its central themes will be environmental sciences, transdisciplinarity and the future of work; three topics that are connected to advances in artificial intelligence and the use of 3D and 4D environments (virtual reality, augmented reality and extended reality).

“Scientific and technological work represents great challenges for today's society, affecting it directly and indirectly. For this reason, this year we have decided to make this thematic fusion, so that the participants can have a space for reflection on how to take advantage of scientific and technological advances while respecting the environment and without ceasing to be human”, specified the doctor Manuel Made, Coordinator of Management and Scientific Dissemination of INTEC and the third Science Week.

The event, which takes place in the auditorium of the Security Observatory of the INTEC campus, will begin with the keynote speech "Science and Transdisciplinarity: ruptures and epistemological convergences for the XNUMXst century”, by Dr. juliet haidar, full-time research professor at National Institute of Anthropology and History of Mexico, who has an academic and scientific career of more than 30 years in the research lines of discourse analysis, semiotics of culture and transdisciplinarity.

During the third Science Week, there will be four panels, two master conferences, a presentation and advances and results of more than 40 investigations, both from INTEC research professors and from various experts from other universities and local institutions.

Monday's panel was based on the climate and environmental sustainability by exposing the climate crisis in the rural community of Boca de Cachón, intervention by the INTEC researcher, Víctor Gómez Valenzuela. Also, adelheid holl, researcher at Higher Council for Scientific Research of the Institute of Policies and Public Goods, Madrid, explained the territorial imbalances together with the new disruptive technologies, such as digitalization, Artificial Intelligence y robotization.

Dr. Susan Massen, research professor of Michigan State University, an expert in the use of chemical oxidants for the remediation of soil, water and leachates contaminated with dangerous organic chemical products, will give the keynote speech “Ethical implications in environmental public policy decision-making”, on Wednesday, November 9.

In this edition there will be interactive and playful activities such as living statues that will embody various characters from the history of science, a prototype of a sargassum collecting ship and a pool of non-Newtonian liquid so that visitors can participate in science in a more fun way.

INTEC annually celebrates the Science Week as part of its responsibility in scientific and technological dissemination, this highlights the importance of the dissemination of knowledge for the development of the country and the construction of critical citizens.
