Samana, most visited province in Easter

Santo Domingo.- A survey recently conducted by students of Marketing and Business Administration Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), establishes that the holidays of Holy Week is the time of the year most used by Dominicans for internal tourism.

The students surveyed 150 Dominican men and women from 18 years and older, all residents in the city of Santo Domingo / National District (57 men and 93 women). They asked about the habits in the previous period, in 2010, and factors related to the internal tourist activities most performed in the country such as: number of people by sex, places, budgets, number of days off, etc.

Among the main results are that for this year 2011 the province with the most projected visits is Samaná, with a total of 25.7% of those surveyed who said they were convinced to spend their holidays in this area.

In the 2010, citizens of the National District spent between RD $ 2,000 and RD $ 4,000. For this year, RD10,000 expenses are projected. The individuals willing to pay this amount, are among the 45 and 54 years and are mostly men. People who are willing to spend RD $ 10,000 are mostly married and professionally made individuals.

An 45.5% of the respondents who will do internal tourism in Semana Santa 2011, will stay in family homes. On the other hand, an 24.2% will do it in hotels and an 15.2% in rented houses.

In the 2010 the North Region or Cibao with an 43.1%, was the most visited during the Easter holiday. This was followed by the Southeast Region with an 26.4% and then the Southwest Region with an 16.7%.

The department that directs these efforts is a professorial group of the Business Area of the Intec formed by Oliver Cruz, Bernardo Echavarría and Miguel René de la Cruz. The research team was made up of:
