Rolando Guzmán is elected new rector of INTEC


The Board of Regents of Instituto Tecnológico de Santo DomingoIn its session today, August 18 elected Rolando M. Guzmán as the new rector of the academic institution for the 2011-2014 period. Guzmán will be sworn in next September, at an event that will be held in the Julio Ravelo Hall of the Emilio Rodríguez Demorizi Library Fountain.

After a process of evaluation of five candidates, initiated the 3 of June of this year, the highest instance of government of the INTEC selected the outstanding economist to occupy the position in which from 2005 has been demoted the Dr. Miguel J. Escala, who He chose to conclude his management at the end of his second term.

Rolando Guzmán holds a PhD in Economics, a Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (USA) and a Master's Degree in Quantitative Economics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul and Fundação Getulio Vargas in Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).

The new rector of INTEC for the 2011-2014 period enjoys a wide academic and professional prestige and has a solid trajectory as a researcher in various fields of scientific work, with national and international publications mainly in the field of economics.

His work experience includes public and private management positions. He has been Director of Strategic Planning and Marketing Intelligence at Verizon Dominicana (2000-2004). He was previously Director of the Economic Research Department of the National Planning Office (ONAPLAN) and Economic Adviser to the Technical Secretariat of the Presidency. As a researcher, he has been a consultant to the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), among others. He is currently the executive director of the Pareto Consulting Group and professor at INTEC.

José Luis De Ramón, president of the Board of Regents, on behalf of the same, informed that the election of the new rector was carried out in accordance with the statutes of INTEC and its regulations. In this regard, he highlighted the satisfaction of the members of the organization with the quality of all the candidates, while thanking them for having participated in the selection process. De Ramón congratulated the new Rector, who guaranteed the necessary support for the performance of his duties.
