News contest returns "Gender equality for a life without violence"

SANTO DOMINGO. Philip Morris Dominicana, SA, in conjunction with the Center for Gender Studies of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) and the Dominican Association of Journalists with a Gender Perspective, announced the call for the fifth edition of the journalistic contest “Gender Equality for a Life without Violence”, within the framework of its initiative to eradicate Gender Violence in the Dominican Republic .

This contest every year aims to motivate journalists in the written press, digital media and television press to assume a responsible and quality information exercise, addressing violence from a perspective of solution, and to contribute to pay greater attention to this problem, evidencing its manifestations, causes and consequences, as well as the positive individual and social impact of living a life free of violence.

In offering details of the fifth call, Rebeca Ramón, Communication and Contributions Officer of Philip Morris Dominicana, indicated that this initiative has the purpose of encouraging the discussion in the media of the issues surrounding gender violence in the country, through research, ensuring that the work is carried out promoting equality, equity and defense of human rights.

While the director of INTEC's Center for Gender Studies, Lourdes Contreras, said that this edition will encourage journalists to use the various resources that each media allows, to perform a deeper and more complete work, tools such as the photo report, the videos, statistics and graphics that sustain the research work. "For us it is important that the press of our country not only carry out research that speaks of what happened, we want to go further and see the two faces before and behind the acts of violence that occur every day," he said.

The contest will assess the work done on the fight against gender violence, promoting equality, equity and defense of human rights. Two written and television categories will be awarded in first and second place each, with a monetary incentive of RD $ 100,000 and RD $ 75,000.
