The rector of INTEC is a member of the executive committee of the Migration Policy Observatory.
SANTO DOMINGO. - Julio Sánchez Maríñez, rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) is part of the executive committee of the Migration Policy Observatory, a space for citizen exchange aimed at strengthening organized surveillance, transparency, and civil society participation in the design, monitoring, and evaluation of the Dominican State's migration policies.
The Observatory was created by Decree 215-25, promulgated by President Luis Abinader, and operates under the authority of the National Migration Council and the Executive Committee, headed by Miguel Franjul, director of the newspaper Listín Diario, appointed by the Executive Branch as president of the organization, in coordination with the Ministry of the Interior and Police.
This commission, which is responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of the Observatory, also includes the Archbishop of Santiago, Monsignor Héctor Rafael Rodríguez Rodríguez; Pastor Feliciano Lacen Custodio, executive director of the Dominican Council of Evangelical Unity (Codue); Jacinto Pichardo, secretary general of the Duartiano Institute; Juan Mera, president of the Association for the Development of Santiago; César Dargam Espaillat, executive vice president of the National Council of Private Enterprise (Conep); and Juan Bancalari, president of the Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores). All members will serve on an honorary basis.
The aforementioned decree also empowers the Observatory to incorporate new members of civil society and create permanent working groups with experts and specialists in the field.
About his appointment
Regarding his appointment, Sánchez Maríñez stated that every country must have immigration policies because they guarantee the fundamental rights of individuals, especially when it comes to refugees, minors, or people in an irregular situation. At the same time, they facilitate the integration of migrants into society.
INTEC has positioned itself as a preferred partner for the country's productive sectors, especially in socioeconomic development projects. This is part of its 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, which seeks to be a key ally for the government, private enterprise, and civil society, with the goal of impacting development in the national scientific, technological, and productive sectors.
