Rector of INTEC congratulates Eaton for the inauguration of its first Design Center in the Dominican Republic

SANTO DOMINGO. – Julio Sánchez Maríñez, rector of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), congratulated the intelligent energy management solutions company Eaton for the inauguration of its Industrial Design Center, the first of its kind in the Dominican Republic, which is located right in front of the university campus on Los Próceres del Distrito avenue. National.

In a letter addressed to the directors of Eaton, Sánchez Maríñez stated that he was excited that, after almost two decades of relationship, the multinational had decided to become "our closest neighbor in Santo Domingo, so we continue to strengthen our alliance, in favor of development of the industrial sector in the Dominican Republic”.

The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, led the opening ceremony and celebrated the proximity of this center to INTEC, his alma mater. When cutting the inaugural ribbon he gave one to the rector Julio Sanchez Mariñez.

As a result of the relations between Eaton and INTEC, the multinational has donated capital for the adaptation of the Domotics and Makerspace laboratories and, before, for the installation of the Haas Technical Education Center, attached to the INTEC Engineering Area. All these laboratories are equipped with high-tech equipment for the manufacture and assembly of prototypes and practices in the areas of programming, mechanics, mechatronics, electronics and electricity.

The MakerSpace Laboratory is a space designed so that students can unleash their creativity and make prototypes, utility models, and other projects, putting the product of their designs into practice. While the Home Automation Laboratory supports the practices of programming and configuration of lighting, security, and air conditioning systems.

The MakerSpace, which has been in operation since 2019, was of the utmost importance for the manufacture of the more than 300 AirINTEC mechanical fans, which were designed and assembled by students and university graduates to counteract the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the system. local toilet.

Meanwhile, the Haas Technical Education Center (LHTEC) was created from a strategic alliance with HAAS Automation, from Penn State University and local companies such as Eaton, in order to provide students and companies with a high-tech experience in the field of design and assisted manufacturing. This laboratory develops different training programs for the personnel of various companies, in addition to providing manufacturing, design and consulting solutions to the industrial sector in the manufacture of machines and parts.

Sánchez Maríñez highlighted that as part of the 42 INTEC laboratories, these facilities allow the training of excellence in the different branches of engineering, which constitutes an irreplaceable contribution of INTEC throughout its 50 years with more than 12 thousand graduates in different branches of engineering, for 35 percent of the total of its almost 35 thousand graduates.

Likewise, Eaton developed an exclusive internship program in which INTEC students work for two years in the company, rotating through the different design areas, and then being appointed to relevant positions.

Opening

During the opening speech, engineer Luis Valeirón, director of the Center, stated that the alliance with the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo, which has been growing over the years, was a determining factor in making the decision of where to locate the building that houses the Design Center.

“This ensures that we continue to look for ways to further strengthen this important partnership for Eaton, which not only helps us attract and retain talent, but allows us to positively flow through university programs with an eye toward the needs of today's industry.” Said Valeirón, who is a graduate of INTEC Industrial Engineering.

Eaton has committed $3 billion in research and development to accelerate the development of sustainable solutions by 2030. The new Santo Domingo Design Center advances the mission of helping customers in the Americas accelerate a low-carbon energy future.

The Eaton Design Center is strategically located to serve customers throughout the Americas. The facility will significantly strengthen Eaton's engineering capabilities in the country, supporting new product development for key product lines, including residential circuit breakers, molded case circuit breakers and industrial controls.

The Center is expected to have about 70 professionals dedicated to the development of new products and technology, with five laboratories where functional prototypes, electrical and mechanical tests, different types of measurements and modifications to existing products can be carried out.

The investment in this Center also supports Eaton's ongoing commitment to technological and industrial education in the region through ongoing project partnerships and internship programs with INTEC faculty and students.

Eaton is an energy management company of more than 99 employees operating in more than 000 countries with net sales of approximately $175 million in 19,6. Its energy efficiency products and services help its customers manage effectively electrical, hydraulic and mechanical energy in a more reliable, efficient, safe and sustainable way.

The company was established in the Dominican Republic in 1985, under the name Westinghouse, in the municipality of Haina, San Cristóbal. It currently has around 5,500 employees distributed in four locations within three different cities in the country. Within these facilities are manufacturing plants for residential and commercial breaker assemblies, fuses, industrial controls and aerospace connectors; and a new design center dedicated to the development of new technologies and products.
