Mechatronics Project wins in 2012 National Business Plans Competition


Santo Domingo. The "Copilot" device, created by Mecatronics students Romer Quiñones and Gray Guzmán, obtained the first place corresponding to INTEC in the National Competition of Business Plans of the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT), in which eight universities.

"Copilot" is a device that helps prevent traffic accidents due to the drivers falling asleep by monitoring the brain waves.

The competition, which is held for the fourth consecutive year as part of the MESCyT Entrepreneurship Program, chooses a first place for each university that participates in the competition. Previously, it promotes a competition within the respective institutions, with workshops, pre-selection of ideas, selection and awards.

In addition to monetary prizes, RD $ 100,000 for the first places, the winners receive follow-up in the pre-incubation process of the companies. In the case of INTEC, the follow-up is done through INTEC's Entrepreneurship and Innovation Center (CEI-INTEC), in order to develop them until they are commercialized.

The first places in the business plan competition by the other universities were: Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD), Bienvenido Medina and Heine Morantini with the “Fryxx” project; from the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), Joshua R. Guzmán and his project “Vaux Technology”; Diego Sánchez, Víctor Panigua and Martin Domenech with ¨Natural Muss¨ from the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU), Miguel Antonio Polonio and his “E-Mobile” from the Universidad Central del Este (UCE), Jannabell Pérez Bueno and Emely Reyes Rodríguez from the Higher Institute of Agriculture (ISA) "Balance Fit"; from the Universidad Iberoamericana (UNIBE) the works of Reybis Ceballos and Gustavo Valverde with “QR Code Pay” and Stephanie Mejía and Rose E. Gómez-Brisson “Colonial Bike Audio Tours” were selected, and from the APEC University (UNAPEC) Eridania Ulerio Pichardo and Francisco E. Brito created “Smart Check”.
