INTEC research professor recognized with the 2024 National Science Award

SANTO DOMINGO. - The Research Professor and past vice-rector for Research and Relations of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Víctor Gómez-Valenzuela, it was recognized National Science Award 2024In the category Biological and Environmental Sciences, which grants the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology (MESCyT).
Gómez Valenzuela received the Eugenio de Jesús Marcano award, for his pioneering work in the field of economic valuation of the environment and natural resources, promoting the use of valuation methods in conservation and sustainable development policies.
The INTEC researcher is Professor of the Doctorate in Environmental Sciences from INTEC, and its extensive research work has focused on sustainable development policies, conservation and governance of natural resources, in addition to science, technology and innovation policies for sustainability.
In the act headed by the Vice President of the Republic, Raquel Peña, and Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Franklin García Fermín, the highest award of “Researcher of the Nation” was given to Frank Moya Pons, for his outstanding work as a Dominican researcher, historian, writer and academic. Likewise, other researchers in different areas of knowledge were recognized.
The National Science Award is an award that is granted annually and aims to recognize the career and scientific contributions of researchers in various areas, submitted by expert commissions and approved by the National Council of Higher Education, Science and Technology. (CONESCyT).
About Víctor Gómez-Valenzuela
He is a leading researcher in the environmental area and public policies regarding innovation and sustainability. He graduated with a degree in Anthropology from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD). He obtained master's degrees in Environmental Economics from CATIE, Costa Rica, and Social Studies of Science and Technology from Maastricht University and the European Interuniversity Association of Science and Technology in the Netherlands; PhD in Economic Sciences from the Autonomous, Complutense and Polytechnic Universities of Madrid.
He is a member of various international networks and scientific societies, such as the American Association of Economists (AEA), the European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists (EAERE), the Latin American Association of Environmental Economists (LAERE), the Global Network for Studies of Learning, Innovation and Skills Construction Systems (GLOBLELICS) and its Latin American subsidiary (LALICS), of which he has been a member of its Scientific Committee for more than six years, among other international associations and networks.
He has been an undergraduate and postgraduate professor at the University of Costa Rica (UCR), the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) and a visiting academic at the Manchester Institute of Innovation Research at the University of Manchester, in the United Kingdom, among other universities. . He has been a consultant for international organizations such as the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Green Global Growth Institute (GGGI), the Spanish Agency of International Cooperation (AECID), among others.
He was Vice Minister of Science and Technology of the Dominican Republic (2007-2009), Vice President of the Inter-American Commission on Science and Technology of the Organization of American States (OAS) and Vice Chancellor of Research and Liaison of INTEC.
