First graduates of the Cybersecurity diploma for the energy sector


SANTO DOMINGO.- El Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) successfully completed the work of training 28 participants of the first cohort of the Diploma in Cybersecurity for the energy sector, which met the objective of providing technicians who are part of the entities in the energy sector with crucial knowledge and tools to guarantee cybersecurity and resilience against potential attacks on the market, the system or a particular entity.

The project that is implemented by the Research Triangle Institute (RTI) together with GreEnergy Dominicana, through the INTEC Permanent Education Unit, consists of eight modules and three workshops. Among the topics were the National Interconnected Electrical System (SENI) and Digitalization; Fundamentals of Cybersecurity in the Energy Sector and Cybersecurity Risk Management; Cybersecurity Incident Management; Cybersecurity and Smart Networks; Cybersecurity and Energy Transition, and Blockchain in the electricity sector.

Likewise, Cybersecurity in Industry 4.0 and the Demo conference on the use of ChatGPT as a cybersecurity tool. The workshops given were about the Cybersecurity Road Map; Cybersecurity Risk Map and Cybersecurity Protocol, all in the context of the energy sector.

The diploma course was taught virtually and is part of the USAID Energy Sector Reform project, which promotes the self-sufficiency of thirteen Caribbean countries by strengthening the performance of their energy systems. The project helps Caribbean nations increase their energy independence, develop productive and diverse economies, and strengthen their capacity to address climate and market changes.

The Energy Sector Reform is part of the Partnership between the United States and the Caribbean to Address the Climate Crisis 2030 (PACC 2030), promoting the strategic objectives of energy security and climate adaptation.
