Transformative practices: teachers share lessons learned for gender-equal education
INTEC and INAFOCAM developed a seminar as part of the Master's Degree in Gender and Equality Policies in Education
SANTO DOMINGO. - The Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) held the seminar “Transformative Practices: Experiences and Lessons Learned from Pedagogical Support with a Gender Focus”, a space for reflection and academic exchange that brought together teachers, master's students and representatives of the Dominican educational system to share the results of the Pedagogical Accompaniment Program developed within the framework of the Master's Degree in Gender and Equality Policies in Education.
The event was held in the Social Security Auditorium of INTEC, with the participation of academic authorities, representatives of the National Institute for Teacher Training and Development (INAFOCAM), the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic (MINERD), as well as directors of educational centers and participating teachers.
Dalul Ordehi, dean of the Social Sciences and Humanities Area at INTEC, asserted that educational transformation begins when teachers decide to take a critical stance on what is taught and how it is taught, and what implicit and explicit messages are conveyed.
Meanwhile, Corina Montero, head of the Postgraduate Department at INAFOCAM, stated that pedagogical support is key to any type of training, as it allows for the strengthening of professional skills.
The seminar marked the end of a training process developed between May 2025 and January 2026, in which 62 master's students —49 women and 13 men— participated in a pedagogical support program aimed at strengthening their teaching capacities through the incorporation of the gender approach in educational practicesDuring this process, the participants worked on critically reflecting on their practices, identifying gender inequalities in the classroom, and building collaborative learning networks.
As part of the day, conferences, panels and dramatizations based on teachers' narratives were presented, in which experiences were shared that show how pedagogical practices can contribute to promoting gender equality and human rights in educational spaces.
The activity also included spaces for dialogue and collective reflection on the progress, challenges and commitments for the sustainability of transformative educational practices in the Dominican education system.
Through this activity, INTEC and INAFOCAM contribute to the training of professionals capable of promoting inclusive, equitable and gender-sensitive educationThis contributes to strengthening the national education system and developing a more just and equitable society.
