Santo Domingo.- The second interuniversity competition of Puentes de Palitos, to be held in the Ravelo Hall of Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) on 23 and 30 on November 2011, it is the first national competition of this type where future engineers and architects test their skills by building on a small scale, and only with wooden sticks, a bridge that resists the greatest amount of pounds before failing.

It is an original initiative of the Civil Engineering Students Committee of INTEC (CEIC-INTEC), who, due to the success of the internal competitions held over the last seven years, have decided to turn it into an inter-university competition.

This year the university opens its doors for the second time to other universities in the country that teach Civil Engineering and Architecture careers, so that the active students of these careers compete.

The CEIC-INTEC team, chaired by Sarah Fernández, is the organizer and responsible for the event, with the support of the engineer Martín Abbott Zorrilla, Coordinator of the Civil Engineering career at the institution. The competition counts on the collaboration and the advising of the professors of the Engineering Area of the INTEC to which the interested ones of the participating universities can be added.

The first three places will be awarded with RD $ 25,000, RD $ 15,000 and RD $ 10,000, respectively, as well as the category "Aesthetics" in the design.

The objective of this contest is to encourage the character of research and provoke the imagination, creativity and technical ability of students by awakening their ingenuity, challenging their knowledge in search of the best solution to problems. It is also proposed to integrate the various universities to create a link between the entire community of Civil Engineering and Architecture students of the participating organizations.
