INTEC Climate Change and Resilience Observatory launches Green Leadership, a documentary that promotes the conservation of biodiversity


Produced by Manuel Hernández, Jhoan Almonte and Rosaura Pimentel, it was presented during the opening of the second round of Collaborative Social Audit for Biodiversity Conservation

SANTO DOMINGO. - The Climate Change and Resilience Observatory Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (OCCR INTEC) presented the documentary “Green Leadership: a path for biodiversity conservation”, in which they addressed the importance of preserving protected areas for their continued development and that of the surrounding communities.

The executive production of the audiovisual was carried out by Manuel Hernández, OCCR INTEC project coordinator, under the production of Jhoan Almonte, specialist in Youth, Gender and Minorities; Rosaura Pimentel project coordinator and INTEC teacher; and Gabriela Rojas, project assistant. The audiovisual material was edited by Omar Escoto, audiovisual technician, and the script prepared by Rachanny García, administrative assistant of the Learning Resources Directorate.

The project was presented during the opening of the diploma in Collaborative Social Audit for Biodiversity Conservation (CSA), which seeks to achieve the understanding of social responsibility, the environment and the conservation of selected protected areas, to increase their participation as conservation observers.

In September 2021, INTEC began the implementation of the projects "Collaborative Social Audit for Good Governance in the Protection of Key Priority Biodiversity Areas in the Caribbean" of the Global Alliance for Social Audit (GPSA) and "Promoting Social Audit Collaborative in Key Biodiversity Areas of the Caribbean Islands" of the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF), with the objective of improving the conservation of biodiversity hotspots located in 6 Caribbean countries: Dominican Republic, Antigua and Barbuda, Jamaica, Saint Lucia, The Bahamas and Saint Vincent and The Grenadines, through collaborative social audit mechanisms between governments, citizens and civil society organizations (CSOs).

Among the participants in the documentary were Natalia Magradze, environmental specialist at TTL Bank; Michel Zadhor, portfolio manager of the Critical Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CFF); Nicole Brown, coordinator of the regional implementation team of the Caribbean Natural Resources Institute (CANARI), Rosaura Pimentel, Jhoan Almonte and Manuel Hernández.

Likewise, there were the community workshop facilitators of the diploma Ruffa Gomez, Isaury Rosario, Someira Zambrano, Pedro Coss, Yolanny Rojas, Ransay Cesar and Mildred Sena, also a research teacher at INTEC.

Also part of the cast of the audiovisual were Raquel Samboy, community leader of Las Galeras along with Corina Bravo and Naomi de León; Miguelina Durán, community leader from Constanza; Carmen Suriel, community member from Rio Grande and Hensy Perez, community member from Paraíso.

Among the sponsors of the documentary is the Partnership Fund for Critical Ecosystems, a joint initiative of the French Development Agency, Conservation International, the European Union, the Hans Wilsdorf Foundation, the Environment Fund World, the Government of Japan and the World Bank. Likewise, the Global Alliance for Social Audit. “The fundamental goal is to ensure that civil society is dedicated to conserving biological diversity,” as stated in the video credits.
