New dean of the Area of ​​Health Sciences


El orthopedic doctor y traumatologist, Miguel Ernesto Robiou Kranwinkel, was appointed by the Rectory of the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) as new dean of the Health Sciences Area, for a period of three years that concludes in may year 2021. Replaces in his duties to the doctor Jose Raymundo Jimenez Hernandez, who successfully concludes his duties after a prolonged period of exercise. 

Robiou Kranwinkel is a doctor of Medicine, graduated from the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National University (UNPHU), in 1987; with a specialty in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Salvador B. Gautier Hospital, 1993; He has studies in Teaching Management, Teaching Certification and Clinical Research Methodology; Hip and Pelvis Surgery, and joint replacements, among others.

He has developed his teaching experience at the level of degree, teaching the subjects Clinical Anatomy and Orthopedics and Traumatology at UNPHU, where he has been working since 1992, and where he coordinated the Rotation of Orthopedics and Traumatology of the pre-internship and surgical internship. At INTEC, he teaches the subject Orthopedics and Traumatology and coordinates the practical rotations and services of the subject; he also coordinates the medical rotation of that area in the surgical internship, since 1996. Additionally, he has organized and participated in national and international conferences, and presented research papers in the areas of orthopedics and traumatology; is member for the Latin American Society of Orthopedics and Traumatology, and other local and international organizations that group specialists in this field.

The new dean of the Health Sciences Area is married to Dr. Carmen de la Noval, an ophthalmologist surgeon specializing in Anterior Segment and a professor at INTEC. In addition, he is the father of seven: Jonathan Argeniz, Doctor of Medicine, resides in Spain; Miguel Alejandro, Doctor of Medicine, II year resident of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Central Hospital of the Armed Forces (HCFFAA); Andrea Cristina, Fashion Designer specialized in Visor Merchandises; Marcelo Antonio, Marketing student; Maria Fernanda, Graphic Design student; Rafael Augusto, a hospitality student and Miguel Ramon, from the secondary level.

The Rectory stated that the selection of the new dean of the Health Sciences Area was carried out as a result of a rigorous process of weighting and consultation, in compliance with the provisions of the Regulations for the Selection and Appointment of Dean or Dean of the Academic Area. As part of this process, the nominees participated in a panel, which was held at the Osvaldo García de la Concha Auditorium, in which they shared their views on this Area and the initiatives that they would promote during their term of office, if chosen. , and joined by teachers and collaborators from the Health Sciences Area and the rest of the academic community. 

According to the institutional organization chart, the Health Sciences Area reports to the Academic Vice-rector and its holder is a member of the Academic Council and the University Strategic Management Team.

The Area offers two degree programs: Dentistry y Medicine, which recently received international accreditation from the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) (CAAM-HP), regional accrediting entity recognized by World Federation for Medical Education (WFME).  At the graduate level, it has a total of seventeen programs. INTEC is the only university in the country whose medical school is enabled to receive students with funding from the Federal Loan Program of the United States government.
