Miguel Escala is reelected executive director of the IGLU


The Board of Directors of the Inter-American University Organization (OUI) appointed the past rector of Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), Miguel Escala, executive director of the Institute of Management and University Leadership (IGLU) for the 2015-2018 period. 

The decision was made through a virtual consultation, which was conducted from the 8 to the 10 in July, and in which the "highly positive" assessment of the results and impacts of Dr. Escala's work during his first term (2013-2015) was considered. and the importance of consolidating the work to be carried out in its second phase. On this aspect, the instances of the Presidency, Honorary Presidency and outgoing Presidency were pronounced as well as the regional vice presidencies of Central America, Brazil, Canada, Caribbean, Southern Cone, Mexico and Andean Countries.

As the President of the Superior Council, Silvia Álvarez, expressed it: "Under his direction, the IGLU has entered a stage of renewal and opening to new scenarios that will strengthen its leadership and presence in HEIs of the Americas." During Dr. Escala's administration, a renewed offer of services and products aimed at university leaders was promoted. Among the proposed trainings is the realization of specialized courses and internships, specific sessions for senior management, an Observatory of Best Practices, as well as other opportunities for workshops and coaching to address specific issues that require the interested institutions.

Escala works as Research Professor at INTEC, a university of which he was rector for two consecutive periods from 2005 to 2011, and was also Vice President of the OUI for the Caribbean Region between 2008 and 2010. He has a doctorate in Higher Education from the Pennsylvania State University and served as a consultant in the Ministry of Education of the Dominican Republic, in the Ministry of Education of Costa Rica and in Action for Basic Education, among other organizations. In 2006 he was Professor of the module on "Decision-making in Higher Education" at IGLU. His works and research focus on the subject of education and human resource development. His publications include the book "Supervising Schools for Development", National Prize for Didactics in the Dominican Republic.

The IGLU is part of the OUI and was founded in 1983 with the objective of training university executives throughout the Americas. As of 2012, and as a result of a Search Conference held in Xalapa, Mexico, in March 2011, a renewal of the IGLU Course and an expansion of its services began in order to support the member institutions of the OUI in the training, improvement and consolidation processes of its human teams dedicated to academic, strategic and administrative management in the face of the new demands of society.

With nearly 30 years of existence and more than 20,000 trained managers, the IGLU / OUI has excelled for the quality and relevance of its training, as well as for providing improvement services in line with the latest trends in university management. The headquarters of the IGLU, in the Dominican Republic, is located in the INTEC, thanks to the support of this institution and the current Rector Dr. Rolando M. Guzmán.
