Medina will sponsor the INTEC of 32 students, one for each province

Santo Domingo. The president of the Dominican Republic, Danilo Medina visited the Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC) last Thursday 4 of April, where he discussed a series of proposals from the university to carry out projects with impact on national development in which the institution can contribute and signed his personal support to the PIES Scholarship Program, through the Donation campaign "Pass it on by me."

During his first visit as president-elect to his alma mater, where he graduated from Economics at 1985, Medina received from the Director of INTEC, Rolando Guzmán, a document with scientific and social projects to support public policies for sectors such as education, health , environment, technology and business.

As an Outstanding Graduate of INTEC, recognized at 2010, he joined the personal pass program "Pass It For Me", which allows graduates, collaborators and people in solidarity to invest in higher education with donations through their credit cards.

The president shared with members of the Board of Regents, the highest governing body of the university, chaired by Ana María Ramos and the Academic Council of the institution, headed by Rector Guzmán, Leandra Tapia, Academic Vice Chancellor, and Alfonso Casasnovas, Vice Chancellor Administrative and Financial.

In the framework of the visit, Medina committed to sponsor university studies in the INTEC of some 32 students, one for each province of the Dominican Republic. They will be chosen by the university within the PIES.

The project "Pass it for me" is one of the initiatives of the Association of Graduates of the INTEC (ADE) and the funds are exclusively destined to the INTEC Scholarship Program with Outstanding Students (PIES), a pioneer in granting scholarships to the best bachilleres in the country , to take their university studies at INTEC.
Approximately 80 scholarships are awarded each year and some young 300s currently study under this program.

Rector Guzmán thanked the President of the Republic for his support for the program. "This gesture promotes the social commitment of our graduates, who remain part of the INTEC community and make it grow."

In the last 25 years, of the 40 founded the university, the PIES Program has graduated 1,433 professionals, the 77% of them with academic honors. "This reflects how successful is the investment of taxpayers in this program and we say" investment ", not" donation "because when financing these programs a professional is integrated into society that improves their quality of life and that of their family by having achieved a university career, "said Guzmán.

Since its inception, the PIES has been financed by INTEC with the financial support of companies. At present, the greatest contribution to the scholarship program is provided by INTEC, a university that, despite being private, is a non-profit organization whose assets belong to society.

The signing of the contract "Pass it for me" is made a few days after the second Walk for Feet, to be held on Sunday 14 April in the Botanical Garden, where graduates, students and collaborators of INTEC attend a family gathering pro-collection of funds also from the PIES Scholarship Program.

Campaign Pass it for me

For small monthly amounts, those interested in contributing directly to education can help outstanding students achieve a university degree in INTEC, which are granted scholarships for their high academic rates, regardless of their social status.

How the FEET works
The program identifies and selects outstanding baccalaureates from public and private educational centers throughout the country, in order to provide them with the opportunity to acquire high quality professional training and high social commitment at INTEC. For this, candidates must have scores on 80 points in all subjects of the baccalaureate, an average of 90 in the core subjects and undergo academic and psychological tests in the institution.
