Doctors from Yale University visit INTEC


Santo Domingo. Five professors and five students of the Yale University School of Medicine (New Haven, United States), visit the campus of this week Instituto Tecnológico de Santo Domingo (INTEC), within the framework of the affiliation agreement between both academic institutions, which includes the Social Medicine Exchange Program.

The group, headed by doctors Cynthia McNamara (Internal Medicine), France Galerneau (Maternal-Fetal Medicine), Daniel Federman (Internal Medicine), Dr. Martha DeFillo (Internal Medicine and Infectology) and Julio Defilló (Internal Medicine and Geriatrics), who also graduated from INTEC, will rotate in the areas of Internal Medicine and Obstetrics and Gynecology, of the hospitals Salvador B. Gautier and Luis Eduardo Aybar, part of the centers where the students of the Area of ​​Health Sciences of INTEC carry out their practices hospital and boarding

It is the first time that a group from the School of Medicine of this prestigious university visits the Dominican Republic for practical and mobility purposes, since most of the exchanges of this university are carried out with countries in Europe and Asia.

As part of the visit, they give a series of free lectures together with INTEC professors. The same will take place on Tuesday 12, Wednesday 13, Thursday 14 and Friday 15 March at six in the afternoon at the Auditorium Osvaldo Garcia de la Concha and will be on Preterm Labor Screening and Prevention (Screening and prevention of Preterm Labor), Delirium (Delirium), Managing a Patient with HIV (Breathing Bad News) and Breaking Bad News, respectively.

They also toured the primary health care units (UNAPs) of the Peravia province, where the Interacians carry out the Rural Internship.

For three days the team has held free medical care days, with donations of medicines to patients from the communities surrounding the INTEC site that have approached. The doctors treated patients with hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), back and joint pains, skin infections and pregnant women.

The health operations were carried out from Tuesday 12, until Thursday 14, from 2: 20 to 6: 00 pm, in the Unit of Primary Health Care (UNAP) Dr. Evangelina Rodríguez located in the INTEC site.
